One Awesome Sorority Sister

This blog post is dedicated to my awesome sorority sister Casey. (see I promised I would dedicate a blog post to one of my followers eventually)
This is Casey:
Not only is she fun and smart but she's a hottie too!
Casey is awesome, not only did we have tons of fun in college but I love reconnecting as alumna as she plans awesome annual reunions.
Exhibit A of college fun:

For the first few years job schedules and finances kept me from attending but last year I made it a real priority and heading up to Washington DC for a few days with some of my favorite girls. Not only is Casey awesome because she's a super planner like me and understand the need for planning fun on excel spreadsheets but she is also great at documenting our fun times when I'm too lazy to get my camera out of my purse. Examples of our fun times in DC:

Magazine Inspired Projects

One of my favorite ways to relax is to ready girly / homey magazines. Until my reading selection was forced upon me in high school I LOVED reading growing up. It's a hobby that I have lot and am trying to get back into. Although I am in my sorority's local alumna book club I try to do other recreational reading. The best thing about magazines is that they are low commitment when it comes to reading - plus there are lots of pretty pictures.
Currently My Favorite are : Southern Living (sorry Elle Woods, THIS is the bible) Better Homes and Gardens All You Ladies Home Journal Good Housekeeping Women's Day Redbook ( next to Southern Living, my favorite) Everyday with Rachel Ray Family Circle Eating Well
Occasionally I also will get a Glamour, Cosmo or a fun magazine called Southern Lady. But even though I am more in line with the Glamour / Cosmo demographic I just don't find them very interesting with their emphasis on sex, clothing and drinking. Sure, I like a good fash…

Don't be a drag, be a Queen

Even it takes me awhile a promise is a promise and I did promise to do a post on how AWESOME drag shows are; in light of my 4th drag show attendance (plus the April Fools Day drag baby shower) this year I figure now is as a good of a time as any.
Now, to my knowledge there are 3 places in Memphis where on a regular basis one can catch a drag show: Crossroads, Dru's Place and Club Spectrum. Jack Magoo's on Broad is also hosting the RuPaul Queens when they come to town, there is a whole series of appearances through October this year, so you have plenty of time to check it out. I have yet to go to Club Spectrum or Jack Magoo's, I'm sure Jack Magoo's will make it onto my agenda eventually.  So obviously, the performers are men dressed as women, but I promise you there are some thing will make you do a double take to check your facts on that. The songs are sassy, these girls know how to bust a move, and the costumes crazy, what's not for a girl to love? I went to…

Last weekend was my 10 year high school reunion, which I did not attend. I seriously considered it but just wasn't feeling it, maybe I'll catch everyone for the 15 year.
I did however make me think that I am approaching 10 years of being a legal adult. Emphasis on the word legal because there are still times where I don't feel much like an adult at all, but at least it means my parents are liable for my irresponsible behavior. Well, legally anyway. I know I've made some mistakes along the way but I also think I did a few things right. But if I could give 18 year old me a little advice, it would sound something like this:
Dear Amanda,
You survived high school and are finally going off to college, have fun and go to class! Every time you feel the urge to run to Target try going to the gym instead, your waist line and your credit card will thank you. Speaking of, in the near future they are going to stop giving 18 year olds credit cards, use yours wisely because I know …

Why Dating Sucks

For the past six weeks I've been driving myself crazy wondering wondering what I was so afriad of. The biggest problem I've had at the end of the day with the DB breakup is that it should have come from me. I was so DUMB to let him live in my house months after any feelings of romance had left. But alas, I was one of those idoit girls who believes that having a not great boyfriend was better than none at all and I've been trying to figure out where I could have possibly gotten such a terrible idea. And then today I was reminded : because dating SUCKS!

A good quote someone gave me was "Instead of looking for Mr. Right, do  the things you love and he will be right there waiting for you". Well, I like going to wine club, junior league functions, and now drag shows ( BEST NIGHT EVER, will blog about it soon, promise) and while there are men at the thrid, I'm just not their type And thus I am admiting to you all that I have an online dating profile. Yes, welcome …

The Valentine's Day Pledge

Yesterday I went into a store that had hundreds of balloons in the aisles in preparation for Valentine's Day. It reminded me of the scene in the Sex and the City movie where Miranda and Carrie go out to dinner for Valentine's, being that they are two single women. I felt trapped and claustrophobic stuck among all those ribbons and couldn't wait to get out of there. I'm trying very hard to not be angry / sad/ bitter / lonely but I will admit that I will be so relieved when February 15th arrives.

Regardless of one's relationship status, I think we can all agree that nobody likes to be around an obnoxious jerk, be it overly obnoxious about single hood or being in a relationship. To keep everyone in check this year I have created a Valentine's pledge. Please read your appropriate pledge and keep it in mind tomorrow. :)

As a single person, This Valentine's Day I pledge:
To not destroy the flowers, candy or gifts of any coupled women around me no matter how much…
