One Awesome Sorority Sister

This blog post is dedicated to my awesome sorority sister Casey. (see I promised I would dedicate a blog post to one of my followers eventually)

This is Casey:

Not only is she fun and smart but she's a hottie too!

Casey is awesome, not only did we have tons of fun in college but I love reconnecting as alumna as she plans awesome annual reunions.

Exhibit A of college fun:

For the first few years job schedules and finances kept me from attending but last year I made it a real priority and heading up to Washington DC for a few days with some of my favorite girls. Not only is Casey awesome because she's a super planner like me and understand the need for planning fun on excel spreadsheets but she is also great at documenting our fun times when I'm too lazy to get my camera out of my purse. Examples of our fun times in DC:

Crescent wine- our symbol is the crescent moon so this was pretty cool to us

Girls night out with some local alumna joining us

This particular trip was special to me because it was my first time to see some of these girls since graduation - including my big sis (or Mom as we called them) Tamsin! The only other Gamma Phi gather I had been to was the beautiful wedding of LMLbut none of these girls were there.

Then this August we headed to sunny California to the home of my dot (little sis) Colleen. I was so sad to miss her wedding so it was great to meet her husband and see her beautiful new home. And again, Casey provided great documentation.

The Vodbox - aka the most awesome thing ever!

So thanks to Casey not only have I had two great trips (and more to look forward to) but I also copied her pics from facebook so I can make my own photo album of Gamma Phi fun times. Casey has her own blog now so you should check her out:

Sweater Weather

Although I could do without the snow and single digit temps I do love winter because a lot of my favorite clothes are winter clothes. There's something about a cozy sweater that makes me feel good so of course I'm loving the current trend of statement sleeve sweaters.

With trends I really have to be careful to control myself, especially with these because it's a style I REALLY like. Without the little voice in my head reminding me that I do not need a closet of practically identical pieces I would own several of the tiered sleeve sweaters, thank goodness for that voice! For the tiered sleeve look I went with black because it's versatile and since this is such a trendy piece and there's no guarantee this will be in style come next winter I wanted something I would get a lot of wear out of this season. Likewise when buying a bell sleeve cardigan I wanted something I could wear throughout winter and possibly into spring - this sweater with jeans and a comfy tee unde…

2018 Wardrobe Goals

New Year, New Wardrobe . . .just kidding! If you offered to buy me a new wardrobe this time last year I would have been all over it but this year I would politely decline because there's too many items I wouldn't want to part with. I know I've made several posts here about my "closet project" and I'm sorry if I sound dramatic about it but y'all I am just so proud of myself.
Sketch of my favorite outfit of 2017 Full confession here: I am a shopaholic - I literally get an endorphin rush when I buy something I like and can spin into a depression episode if I really want something and can't buy it. Over the years I have realized how not only unhealthy this behavior is but how my frequent shopping was holding me back from other areas in my life and last year I decided to stop the cycle. It was hard, there were times when I was moody for days over not buying something or I obsessively looked at something I wanted online every single day counting down unti…

Gratitude Challenge

So this month I was all set to do the whole gratitude challenge thing  but as I started to think of what things I might post about I started to think maybe this isn't the best idea. Is it possible to do a gratitude challenge and come up with 30 unique expressions of gratitude without humble bragging? My day to day life is pretty boring and we don't have cute kids that provide a constant supply of little daily antidotes to be grateful about and I know that this isn't about picking up 30 material possessions  in my life and posting about them. But even when I look past the "stuff" in my life and more behind emotional and non tangible things it still just doesn't feel right - does the friend with the sick kid really need my post about how #blessed I am with good health popping up in her feed? I think not.
Maybe I'm being Debbie downer on what's supposed to be a lighthearted and fun social media engagement but I just can't get my heart into it becau…

Thanksgiving Essentials

Next week is Thanksgiving and I am soooo excited! Thanksgiving is basically all of my favorite things in one day - chilling in pjs watching the parade, delicious food, family time, and shopping! For the past few years we have gone our for Thanksgiving because the condo was not wheelchair friendly for my grandmother and my dad moved out of town but this year we're going back to having Thanksgiving at home and while I'm sad we won't have my grandma this year I am excited to be cooking the Thanksgiving meal again. In my humble opinion Thanksgiving is no time for healthy eating and since everyone has their own favorites I say bring on the carbs - this is what my menu this year will be: 1. Champagne Turkey 2. Stuffing 3. Green Bean Casserole 4. Sweet Potato Casserole 5. Mashed Potatoes 6. Peas 7. Corn Soufflé 8. Broccoli 9. Pillsbury Crescent Rolls 10. Cranberry sauce (from the can of course, I hate it but my family tells me this is the only way to have it) 11. Pie 12. Ma…

Shelby Jewel

I really wanted to have this post up yesterday but if you've been following my instagram stories at all you will have seen that I remembered this weekend that I still needed to refinish my dining room table if I had any hopes of using it for Thanksgiving (and yes, I am on track to finish it tonight, Woohoo!) So here I am a day late but not a dollar short with a post on some fun fashion finds. Last week I attended the preview party for a new online boutique started by Memphis Blogger Shelby Jewel. Shelby has beautiful taste so I knew I was interested in checking out her boutique. Nothing says welcome like a glass of Champagne! Racks of beautiful tops Swoon worthy Jackets Pretty Tassel Earrings So, I'll admit I was very nervous about this event, Shelby is very small and most boutique sizes are small as well - I am not. But, I really wanted to see the pretty things and thought hey, you never know. As I predicted clothing is available in S - L but I have found that with some bou…
