NOLA Bucket List

Last weekend I went to New Orleans for a wedding. First off yay to BL to becoming BP, beautiful ceremony and super fun reception. Secondly, I can't believe it took 7 years post college graduation to go back to Nola, that's just crazy and now that I've been back I'll be sure to not wait so long. In addition to seeing a fab Gamma Phi get married I got to hang with another fab Gamma Phi and cross some things of my Nola bucket list. When you're in New Orleans and in college you are surrounded by culture, great food, and great drinks but some of the awesome New Orleans experiences just aren't things a college student would do, it was fun to go with a local knowledge but tourist mindset. Most outsiders think of Nola as Mardi Gras and bourbon street but its really so much more. Mardi Gras should be on every one's life bucket list but here's some thoughts on a Nola specific bucket list that has nothing to do with Mardi Gras.

White Water Rafting

Last weekend I went white water rafting for the 3rd time. This trip was my 2nd time on the Ocoee River which is one of the top 10 white water locations in the US and site of the 1996 Olympics for kayaking. I know the fact that I did this surprises some of you. To dispel any doubt I'm including a photo. This photo as you might guess was taken during one of the bigger rapids - on the Olympic course. Please note that I am smiling and do not have a terrified look on my face.
This particular trip was with a company called Adventurers Unlimited, they ran a discount on Groupon. My dad and I went several years ago and talked about doing it again so when the groupon came up I knew I found the perfect birthday gift. Ordinarily the full day of rafting we did would be $81 per person and then a photo CD an additional $50 - Groupon was $75 a person with the photos, so basically it was like getting the photos for free. The trip lasts 6 hours but that includes the bus ride to the drop point, l…

Laser

Every time I hear or say the word laser I think of dr evil from Austin powers - I was really into that saga in high school. Anyway, getting a laser on your face really isn't that futuristic and cool as you would hope. After dealing with a few bad grouponers I decided to cash in my fat credit for laser hair removal after wine club members NM and MB informed me that the other things I was considering were a complete waste if money. So six sessions at solutions medical in collierville here I come!

Before getting treated I had to go in for the consultation. This was slightly annoying being its way out in the burbs . During this time we discussed what I wanted - I purchases a medium area and decided to use my whole face as my selected area. Specifically, upper lip, sideburns and eyebrows; although I was very disappointed to be told that only my upper eyebrows can be done. We also discussed any concerns, I asked if anyone had ever cried and the nurse said yes. Yikes! She gave me a pres…

Faking It

No, this post is not about "that", so sorry to disappoint. It is about my lastest quest to fight Mother Nature and bring back my youth . . . This time with false eyelashes.
I came across this groupon deal for $15, yay! True eyelash extensions can costs over $200 and are individual lashes glued to the real lash. What I got are little clusters of false eyelashes glued to my real eyelashes. The real deal will last 4 to 6 weeks and then you get them filled in as your naturally lashes fall out. If anyone has done this I welcome you to write a guest blog post about it. What I got will last up to 10 days, I'm on day 6 and no sign of them coming out yet. here's what it looks like:

The process took 45 minutes and the lashes were glued to the underside - based on online research I think because the girl I'm going to is new at this she does it this way to disguise any sloppiness - you get what you pay for. See:

So here's some thoughts:

Pros 1. This might be the sin…
