A little note

Earlier I made my Facebook status about what a great month July had been. This is what happens when you have a great month, lots and lots of thank you notes.

If you love the YouTube video sh%t southern women day as much as I do then you know that we women keep up with who sends a thank you note and who doesn't. I've been negligent in this duty for the past few months but got caught up on June and July thanks last night. My general philosophy is when in doubt send a note, you never hear someone say can you believe that bitch sent me a thank you note; plus we all love getting mail that isn't bills.
I love stationary very much and the fancier the better but if I sent a fancy card out each time I sent a note I would spend $1,000 a year on cards, that's a lot! However, I really love the rifle paper company botanicals line. I promised my sorority sister CF a cute banner for my gamma phi chapter's recruitment since she wanted to steal the one I brought to our retreat. …

Forever fashionably frugal

So my first post about my attempts on being frugal was about doing something for someone else, but I assure you I'm making an effort to be self frugal as well. This includes not shopping the Julylilly sale and cutting way back on the spending I has originally planned for my Nola trip, damn you car repairs!
So I still love my lilly of course but I'm also attempting to supplement with more affordable stuff and thus que my new obsession with forever 21. I had in my mind that its for teens and hookers but at some point they revolved into having really cute stuff! When I was in Nashville earlier this month I made a stop at opry mills and found the forever 21 store, it was glossy and bright and felt kinda upscale, yet I didn't buy anything over $25!

They still mostly cater to teeny tiny people and some of the stuff I would deem excessively short / low cut but the Nashville location offered a plus size section, shoes and tons of fun accessories. I wound up getting 2 peplum t…

Champagne Taste, Boxed Wine Budget

When it comes to things that are not fun I am very stingy . Meanwhile , I'm a total spender when it comes to excess cash and find myself rarely saving so when things like car repairs and pet vet bills come up I have to pull from emergency funds, and those aren't true emergencies. I've decided I need to be a bit more stingy with fun money too. There's something thrilling about finding a good deal and I KNOW that I have spent money unnecessarily by not shopping around or just exhibiting what my dad would refer to as foolish behavior.
Last weekend I hosted my wine club for a casual champagne shower for two of our lovely members. Since some of the other ladies had said they would bring a dish (which in the past I would have refused and insisted on making everything my self) my goal was to spend no more than $100. Which for me is low bc I usually spend at least $200 and have lots of leftovers when hosting people at home.

Over It

One of the nice things about getting older is, as Rhett Butler says , frankly not giving a damn. At 29 here are some of the things I'm over:

1. Refusing to wear a swimsuit in public. Heck, I've even tags photos on Facebook in swim wear. No one around me is blind and I don't think my size in a swimsuit is shocking to anyone. It's too hot to hide in clothes being a party pooper

2. My clothing size in general. Not that I don't want to be a smaller size but I'm done believing I can only buy clothes of one size. If something has a different cut than I'm used to or runs small, ill size up rather than refuse to wear it. I also don't believe in denying my size and wearing a dress so tight it pops open, yes I've seen it, and when 4 women are wearing the same dress and only one gets busted its not a cheap zipper, it's being too ridiculous to get the proper size.

3. The need to participate in every social opportunity offered to me. I like my friends, b…

Fountain of Youth

So I get the distinct impression some of you think I'm a little vain , between the peels, injections and cleanses I can't imagine how you came upon that conclusion ; ). The reality is that I've always been thought to be older than I am, my dads wife when he took me shopping for a formal dress shopping in high school, my sisters mom at the New Jersey boardwalk., over 30 when I was 23 in property management and even over 30 when I was 27 by my own friends, smh! It's always been annoying and caused me to buy fancy fface cream but the last year changed everything. At some point earlier in 2013 I looked in the mirror and saw a face that had aged 5 years rather 7 months. It became more then just lines under my eyes and dull skin, it was a constant reminder of the stress I had been through. Erasing the signs of that stress isn't going to bring my mom back but it will make it less of a in my face reminder every single morning. And so I began my search for my fountain of y…

Colon Cleanse

Last night I got had a colon cleanse and per the request of some of you I shall provide a recap that is hopefully informative, maybe a little silly and not too gross.
So, I signed up for a series of three colonics at renew wellness spa. The package was $149 and came with one infrared sauna session, regular price is $59 per colonic. I noticed the spa had a notice for tipping directed at groupon customers, I find this ridiculous and did not tip - sessions are 100% private so no tip for turning on water, sorry. Anyways . . .
Here's what the device looks like, it's basically a toilet where you are laying down, which feel awkward and took a while to get used to, during my first session I had the incredible urge to use the regular restroom facilities the entire time.
So you go in and get naked from the waist down. Renew provided some lube and a glove to insert this new to me tube into my bum, it only needs to go in about 2 inches.
It feels weird at first but isn't anything…

Ain't Nobody Got Time for That Skirt

Some of you may remember that last fall and earlier this spring I've taken classes at Sew Memphis. With a few classes under my belt I felt like it was time to tackle some projects at home by myself. I had a couple yards of lilly fabric I had purchased off eBay and decided to make the simple elastic waist skirt. My first one took 3 hours because I lost the elastic halfway through the waist casing so it took awhile to bring it through but here's the completed look when I did finish.

Here's the actual lilly skirt with the same fabric: http://www.lillypulitzer.com/product/Tops-Bottoms/Skirts/entity/pc/243/c/50/6166.uts?swatchName=Multi+Floral+Sunbonnet+Lace There are several problems with the Lilly skirt: 1. It does not come in my size 2. It's way too short 3. The fitted shape 4. The price So clearly I was not going to buy this skirt. When I saw the fabric I decided to give it a try - it was $30 with shipping for the fabric, another $5 for the cotton lining and $2 fo…

Dishcrawl

Last week I attended my second dish crawl event. This concept has been going on around the country for several year but just recently made its way to Memphis. Here's how it works:
The local dish crawl ambassador reaches out to local restaurants and lines up four within walking distance to participate on a given night, once the date is set tickets go on sale for $45 each limited to 40 people. Two days before the event participants are emailed the meet-up location and the other three are kept a secret. Each restaurant gets the opportunity to speak to the group and provides a small plate of three bites. Water is provided at each place sheeting and drinks can be purchased from the restaurant directly.
So here's the goodies from the event:

Rizzos Diner

Yum, I love rizzos. They have a lobster pronto pup, how cool is that? They also do any amazing grits and duck - for this event that was made into little fritters which I hope becomes a thing. It's very small so either get t…
