A little note

Earlier I made my Facebook status about what a great month July had been. This is what happens when you have a great month, lots and lots of thank you notes.

If you love the YouTube video sh%t southern women day as much as I do then you know that we women keep up with who sends a thank you note and who doesn't. I've been negligent in this duty for the past few months but got caught up on June and July thanks last night. My general philosophy is when in doubt send a note, you never hear someone say can you believe that bitch sent me a thank you note; plus we all love getting mail that isn't bills.

I love stationary very much and the fancier the better but if I sent a fancy card out each time I sent a note I would spend $1,000 a year on cards, that's a lot! However, I really love the rifle paper company botanicals line. I promised my sorority sister CF a cute banner for my gamma phi chapter's recruitment since she wanted to steal the one I brought to our retreat. So needless to say I was delighted when amazon told me people who like that banner also liked these affordable look alike note cards.

My pack of 36 was $9.99 as an add on item with amazon prime shipping ( meaning I could only get them if I was getting something else shipped to me by amazon already) so I did order a pack of the rifle stuff as well, you can see the similarity. They came in yesterday and I'm down 12 already. The banner is on back order so I hope it comes in in time for recruitment. It's also on ebay for $45 so clearly a popular item! here I am holding it up as comanded by CL so she could get a photo. It acually comes with 96 interhangable letters so it can be re-used for various ocassions, if I knew were I put it I would have used it for the champgane shower. NOLA alumns, please take note, if I get this and send it out in time I will expect a thank you note, I'm southern like that  :)

Birthday Discounts

Woohoo! It's my birthday week y'all! Birthdays are always a great time for brands to make customers special and each year I'm able to take advantage of some pretty good discounts in July so I thought I would share the love and talk about some of my favorite discounts and how to get them.

My absolute favorite discount is from Kendra Scott! During your birthday month you can receive one regular item at 50% off. It's your first time you'll have to show your id in store and sign up for their email list but then once they have you on file you can just go into the store and say that you would like to apply your birthday discount to your purchase and give your email address. This year I purchased the Tatiana Long Pendant Necklace which usually sells for $175. This necklace takes the look of the popular Rayne necklace and really amps it up.
If jewelry is your thing you can also get a $10 credit from Charming Charlie - this discount is sent to Charm Rewards members at the…

Beach Essentials

Summer time inevitably  means a trip to the beach. Growing up my husband and I had very different ways of beaching - he being from southern California is used to just taking a towel and maybe a boogie board while I grew up with a little more "princessey" way of beaching - chairs, umbrella, blanket, beach bag with supplies for the day. True story - I was shocked the first time I went to the beach with my husband and his family used the same towel they had on the sand to dry off with. Over our years together we've melded our styles - mostly him admitting that it's nice to sit in actual chairs.

Even if we're only going for a few hours I always bring a tote with what I consider some "beach essentials" - sunglasses, a water bottle, a magazine or book, a hair brush, some hair ties or clip, and of course sunscreen.

Summer Beauty

I feel like Memorial Day is really the kickoff to summer but if you want to be technical yesterday was the first day of summer and it got me thinking about how I change up my beauty routine for summer. I know that it's recommended to change up beauty routines seasonally but I find that I can get away with the same routine for fall, spring and winter  - but summer is a different story and I find myself with different needs during the hot and humid Memphis summer months. Here's some of my summer beauty favorites.
Ogx Quenching Sea Mineral Moisturizing Lotion $7.99 I love this lotion because it's not to thick but not watery thin and it does a good job of keeping skin soft and moisturized without being greasy - plus the nice light sea scent is great for this time of year.
Christophe Robin Cleansing Purifying Scrub with Sea Salt $19 This shampoo scrub is great once a week for gently deep cleansing and get hair squeaky clean - I find it really preps hair to accept the moisture o…

Saying Goodbye

If we're friends on Facebook than you might have picked up on why I didn't blog last week - my grandmother passed away last Wednesday. I know I said I want to keep this blog focused on specific topics and less emotional one but the reality is I write it and while I have a whole list of topics I had planned on blogging last week and this week I feel like it's just not right. I still have a few "personal" posts up - my one about being motherless and childless had some readership over the past week being that Sunday was Mother's Day - and today I'm going to add one more personal post. As y'all know my husband and I are moving in June and I'm so glad that on our last "social" day together (we saw her several days in the hospital before she passed) we got to show my Grandma our new house. Our current condo isn't very wheelchair friendly so for the past few years we have been going out to eat on holidays and we were really excited to hos…
