Fashion Find Friday - Formal Wear

Not everything in my closet is Lilly - or expensive. Interestingly enough , the more formal an outfit is the higher the chances that I paid less for it. Although formal wear tends to be expensive I feel like the clothing I wear the least should cost the least. Plus, formal wear tends to be more of a timeless style so it's easier to buy on sale one season and save for another. This was the case with the dress I wore to a formal event last weekend.

This dress is so great there was another party goer in it, my friend DLB!
I scored my navy version at Ross Dress for Less for $39.99 last spring. DLB bought her black version over a year ago at Macy's on sale for $60ish. I absolutely loved this dress on me and DLB looks fabulous as well. I'm 5'10 and wearing flats while DLB is in heels, she's obviously a much smaller size than me. Hurray for universally flattering dresses. Plus, it's made of a heavy jersey material - super comfortable.
To complete the look I did my…

Yelp it Up

I started yelping in June of 2013 because I was very unhappy with a business. As y'all know, I love groupons and was super excited to find one for personal training. I think letting someone be your trainer is A. a big investment and B. a very personal relationship so I really like the idea of trying someone out before committing to a $1,000 + program, which I was totally willing to spend at the time. Before buying a groupon I always check out a company's website to make sure they are legit. This particular business was obviously active so I purchased and reached out - nothing. I called and the owner was incredibly rude to me , I emailed and the email was inactive, I followed on facebook and noticed the owner posted rude comments about the people she saw at her gym so I wanted my money back. And when I saw that more groupons were being issued I realized what this business owner was - a scammer using groupon to sustain her poorly run business and so I thought that other people …

Fashion Find Friday - J Crew Chandelier Sweatshirt

Recently I've upgraded the look of my blog to look a little neater and a little more "me". One thing I did while updating is go back and tag all of my old post, I actually still have 50ish left to tag, it's exhausting y'all! But it gave me a really good idea of what I'm accomplishing on the blog besides just giving my friends a way to keep up, my reader numbers indicate that there are plenty of people I don't know IRL reading - hey y'all! So tagging my posts gave me an idea of what this blog is about and an idea on how I can better direct my posts moving forward rather than jumping all over the place. So this is basically a lifestyle blog with an emphasis on fashion and fun activities. So what better way to focus on some fashion than by sharing it with some of you. I recently had a coworker ask me about ebay, because she had never shopped on there before. WHAAAAATTTT?!?!?!?! So, if you don't shop on ebay you really should, especially if there'…

Holiday Mail

I love sending Christmas cards, I also love getting Christmas / holiday cards. Growing up Christmas cards were serious business. My Mom kept a book of who she sent them to and who sent one to us, three years and no card you were off the list. It's something my friends and I discuss today, seems like lots of moms ran their card list that way and now I find myself being a little less strict but keeping up with my list the same way. You would think that by 29 I'd have a pretty firm list of people I send Christmas cards to, but nope, it continues to change every year. Of course, the fact that I lost the disk with all the addresses from the prior year hurt a lot, that address list had every single person who attended my mom's memorial service or sent a card, it was a very handy but sad way to keep up with my non immediate family. A few years ago I use to think that I'd send a card to anyone that if I was to become engaged would make it onto my wedding guest list. Now that…

Lilly Pulitzer Elsa of the Month

So obviously I love Lilly Pulitzer. And you may recall that I also love the Elsa top. So imagine my excitement when it was announced that this year there would be an Elsa of the month. I might have squealed with delight. Here are the first 6 months worth of Elsa's:

January: Tusk in Sun This is a VERY popular print, as in a cotton dress original sold for $98 goes for $200 to $300 on ebay. But the original print had blue elephants with a redish pink background. I expected this to be a sell out but the Lilly community seems upset by the color change. I like it and will probably buy if available beyond January as I already spend at the New Year Cheer sale this month. See, this is me sticking to my 2014 resolutions.
February: Hotty Pink First Impression  Another incredibly popular print. I have this in a dress and it's my bedding. I have already told the fabulous ladies at Mica and Molly's I want one and please order me one in my size. Mica and Molly are a sister team who ha…

More Tea Please!

Recent adventures have given Shaun and I two more tea places under our belt and they were good ones. We are divided on which is in 2nd place and which is in 3rd as The Peabody has yet to be knocked off its pedestal. But that's the thing about being the blog author, you get to write what you want ; ) and thus the current bronze medal holder is Victoria Garden in North Little Rock.

Don't be fooled by the exterior, this place is great! No really, this is the exterior:

My bf and I recently  had afternoon tea on a cloudy chilly day, it was the perfect treat to warm us up. Our waitress was so very sweet and took excellent care of us. All of the teas are traditional or fruity and since our waitress offered to make us different tea for our 2nd pots we got to try four different types, all of which were good.

We started off with a cup of the cheese soup, which came with delicious house made beer bread. It was very good but not to heavy to keep us from enjoying the tea tray.

Next we eac…

Raw Food Results

I know a lot of you enjoyed learning about eating raw food and I hope I gave you so valuable insights. Overall, I think I did well on the plan. Here's a summary of my results:
The Pros  1. Lost 9 pounds!  2. No migraines the entire week  3. No major drop in energy
The Cons 1. I never slept throughout the night  2. Starting bruising around day 4, which means iron deficiency  3. I was tired and cranky by the weekend.
So although I got great results I'm probably not going to be purchasing food from Raw Girls again. I know a lot of people in town really like this company and it's not my intention to bash any business but I amlso think a fair and accurate view of why they are not for everyone is in order. My deal breakers: 1. lack of flexibility in food availability 2. Delivery timing 3. Lack of personalization / customer service 4. Price Although the price was high it's only my bottom deal breaker, more so I felt overall it was not a good value. It was really expe…

Lilly Pulitzer New Year Cheer

This past Monday Lilly Pulitzer had their annual New Year Cheer sale. Hurray! Today Im showing off my picks and discussing strategy. Here's my haul:

With the exception of one top I'm meh on I was very pleased with my shopping experience. I missed out on a cashmere madison cardigan for $99 but life goes on. Here's my items to give you an idea of lilly pricing vs sale prices:
Santana Sweater Dress  Originally $208 Sale Price $79

I really like Lilly sweater dresses. They are a little short for my taste but I can wear with leggings without them being pants. This one is gold and navy and I will wear with a grayish blue button down underneath, leggings and boots. I like that this dress can be dressed up or down.
Aurora Sweater  Original Price $128 Sale Price $49

I just love peplum, lightweight sweaters, and the periwinkle color. This one also has button down the back, it's very cute! This will be perfect for Memphis early spring weather.
Emma top in Bait and Switch Original Pri…

Girl Gone Raw

So, new year new habits . . . At least I hope. As I've mentioned in a few blog posts leading up to this I'm spending the first full week of the year on a raw food diet in hopes of developing better eating habits. This is something I wanted to blog about not only because several friends specifically expressed interest but also because of what all is out there regarding raw food. Most bloggers coveting this topic seem to have a pretty healthy normal diet so I'm looking to provide thoughts from the more typical American diet. Other bloggers also seem overly enthusiastic regarding raw food, I'm looking to see if that's "real" or played up for sponsored posts.
Sunday night as promised my food arrived at first I panicked because it seemed that all the food listed on my order was included which meant I was in for a hungry week but I looked up the plan and realized I had forgotten most of the food listed as coming in the second delivery. I was however disappoin…
