TCA Peel

For me long weekends are a good time to hide out, catch up on sleep, binge watch television series I have heard of but not had the time for, and do some beauty treatments. Over this past weekend I gave myself a TCA peel. ** Disclaimer I am not a medical practitioner or aesthetician, just a vain girl**
The TCA peel is in my opinion very similar to a Vi Peel. I have done these peels several times a year for about four years now and only messed up once when I didn't follow instructions. When done properly its a great way to get the same results at a fraction of the cost.
I use the Skin Obsession 25% peel, which I do not recommend for a first timer, it's about $25 a bottle through amazon - one bottle will give four peels. The process is pretty simple:  1. Start with a clean face  2. Take the solution and moisten a cotton pad  3. Rub the moistened cotton pad evenly over the face (or peel area)  4. Wait a few minutes, it will burn!  5. When the skin has cooled off repeat the peel …

Fashion Find Friday: Linen Pants

I've written about them before but my love for the Old Navy linen blend pants has no end. This year they come in tall and petite, they also come in more colors.
I already own black , navy , tan and a dark teal. This year I have purchased white , a light teal and a denim style. I delayed my purchase this year because it was still cool in Memphis and unfortunately I missed out on the pink. If anyone has a pair just not working out in XL please let me know!
So recently I wore my white pants with a lightweight sweater to work for casual Friday. I had the bf take this pic right when I got home.

I don't think I'll wear those shoes with these again but oh well. The point I'm making here is that I was super casual.
I left the office a little later than usual and we had 7:30pm symphony tickets, so not a lot of time to change it up but I wanted to be more dressy. So I swapped out the jewelry, purse and shoes and threw on a murfee. Ta-da, instant comfortably dressy:

A Discussion of Pants

In case you haven't heard, leggings are not pants. They're just not - sorry. I've been saying this for years people and I'm not changing my stance. But really, I guess it's only fair that give a discussion of various leg coverings.
Dress Pants Slacks Khakis Jeans Jeggings Leggings Tights
I'll admit, I'm not sure if the line between pants and not pants should be above or below jeggings. The case for jeggings as pants would be their structure with pockets and stitching and their thickness. The case for jeggings as leggings is their Lycra and spandex content. Although not all jeggings are created equal I do feel for the most part their structure allows for better bottom and lady bits area coverage than actual leggings so I'm willing to let them slide. Sigh. I do think they look better with a longer top.
So right now it's obviously too hot for tights but I actually wear leggings a lot in the warmer months - it helps make dresses I find a tad short mor…

$40 dates: Memphis Love

I love Memphis so much and one thing I love about my experience with the city is that I feel like we've grown up together. When I was young and not so confident in my career Memphis had a bit of an inferiority complex, we were on all these "worst" lists and when I said I liked living here people would say "why". I'd constantly hear people complain "there's nothing to do in Memphis" and the news focused on a lot of negativity, but oh Memphis, how we both have grown over the past 8 years. Over the past 2 years Memphis has really gone through a growth spurt - perhaps not in population but in community, culture and spirit. People actually talk about loving this city and there's a "movement" of young professionals coming together and saying Memphis is where I want to be, this is where I want to grow my career. Awesome. Although still focused around downtown and midtown I've seen a focus on bringing people together and appreciating…

More Estée Lauder and Lilly Pulitzer

Hello friends! I have an update for y'all with the Estée Lauder and Lilly Pulitzer collaboration. It's good news and bad news. The bad news is that according to both the Dillard's and Macy's counters this will be the last time these two are paring up. I'm sad but then again I only need so many makeup bags or totes. Hopefully it worked out well for both companies.
Onto the good news: Summer gift with purchases are totes! And they're super cute.
Here's the tote currently available at Dillard's:

And here's the one coming up at Macy's starting May 26th, you can also pre-order.

Personally, I like the Macy's tote better. Both are available until they run out but Macy's said they are getting less of these than they got of the makeup bags earlier so they anticipate a quick sell out. These totes are a really nice size - the bf and I went to a pool party over the weekend and it held both our suits and towels. Not too big but not too small. Ru…

Fashion Find Friday: colorful jewels

A few weeks ago I posted some pictures of similar pieces of jewelry to see if people could tell a difference between the high end and low cost items. The earrings had pretty split votes
Although they have a similar look they are not the same stone. The earring on the left are smokey grey chalcedony from an etsy shop oh kuol and retail around $85 are while the ones on the right are yellow citrine from mendikow, they retail for around $1,000.
Here's an example of a purple amethyst from both companies:

This time the higher end brand is on the left, this one is easier to tell due to the clarity of the stone and the fact that the metal is one piece. But when you're looking at a $900 price difference I don't think you could say the look I'd that significantly different if one is going for look vs investing in jewelry. Yes the clarity is nice as is the faceting but to me personally I'm not going to spend that much on a semi precious stone. The etsy shop does have some…

Being the Best Dressed You

Did you know that by the time they reach high school over 70% of girls will have a negative body image. That's a much higher percentage than I would have ever thought, it's just one of many reasons why I believe in supporting young women through programs like Girls Inc. Over the weekend I was a speaker the Girls Inc of Memphis Girl's Summit. This one day event was planned by teens for teens to promote our mission of supporting ALL girls to be Strong, Smart and Bold. The theme was "A Brand Called Me, Discovering my Greatness". My particular workshop was "I am BE YOU tiful" and was about how to look our best no matter the situation. One thing I really emphasized to the girls is that yes, different situations have "rules" of what to wear and what not to wear its important to always dress true to ourselves within those rules - don't copy an exact look of a mannequin or out of a magazine and don't think just because something is great fo…

Motherless and Childless on Mother's Day

So, yesterday was Mother's Day here in the US, if you forgot you might want to stop what you're doing and give your Mom a phone call - if she's still around that is. Mine isn't and so I find myself in an odd phase of life I never thought I'd be in - motherless and childless. It makes the day . . . interesting. A friend of mine posted on facebook how the tradition of Mother's Day was started by a woman who had recently lost her own mother, I never knew that and it did change my perspective to make the day a little better. Of course I do have a mother, everyone does, so when I say "motherless" I mean the lack of earthly presence - she wanted it this way but It's not even like I have a grave to visit and put flowers on. My grandmother is alive though so I spent the day with the family starting off by going to church, the priest was actually very personal about his own mother during the homily and it surprisingly made the day more easy to bear as wel…

Fashion Find Friday: Cute Critters

Yay, it's Friday. And I'm blogging again. How dare that pesky job keep me busy over the past week. But alas month end is over and I have a little time to do more than work, eat and sleep. And it's just in time to because I have a super cute deal y'all don't want to miss out on.
So target, raise your hand if you love target (me). Keep your hand up if target is a black hole where hours and hundreds of dollars disappear (still up). Keep you hand up if you know target is your krypton and avoid it (hand down). So now that we're agreed that target is this awesome / evil place I'm going to give you another excuse to go. These:

Agh, aren't they adorable? These don't have a brand or name attached to them so I'm calling them critter bracelets. Here's some close ups:
The froggy:

The buzzy bee:

And the Pink Flamingo:

So yeah, remember those Kenneth Jay Lane bracelets I blogged about? Well he does other animals too so it's not just an elephant…

Nerium Trial Run

Lately I've seen a lot of people out there talking about Nerium, a anti aging facial product. But most of the people I know talking about it sell it and while there's nothing wrong with that I was really interested to hear from people who buy it but sadly that information was hard to come by.
When one of my former coworkers posted that she had sample bottles to use I just knew I needed to try it. Sigh, the things I do to entertain y'all and look young. So we talked and met up for me to collect the product - the deal was I'd be the keeper of a full size bottle for 5 days, use the product and then return it to Liz to discuss my thoughts.

So that night I went home, washed my face and followed the instructions to apply. I can appreciate that if one ounce of a product costs $80 to $110 it shouldn't contain water, which this does not. The instructions say to run 4 to 5 pumps of the stuff on a damp face. Here's what the product looks like:

That's only one pump…
