Grocery Challenge - Whole Foods

I'm back on the grocery challenge track! With a car in the shop / shopping for a new one and then heading out of town our home routine got all messed up. But now I have a new car and we're ready to eat at home for a few weeks before heading out of town again.

This week we did out grocery shopping at the new Whole Foods in Germantown, mostly because we got a $10 off coupon in the mail. This is now the 2nd Whole Foods in the Memphis area, we basically live in between the two but hey $10 is s big motivator!

The new store offers all the bells and whistles the East Memphis store offers only instead of a BBQ restaurant is a crepe bar, yum! Savory crepes are $7 and dessert crepes are $6 - I am sure this will be a quick dinner for us sometime in the future. The new location also has an upstairs community room and kids area, sorry I didn't check these out so no clue if you can drop off kids and shop or if the community room is available for small groups to use, that would be AWESOME! If you know any deets please leave a comment.

Anyway, here's a haul:

Meals this will provide:

Pot Roast

Bow ties and Brocolli

Pork Loin

Tomato Cream Pasta

Asian Dumplings

Plus obviously all the sides to make meals out of the above. We also got bananas, apples and a cantaloupe and cereal (for Shaun) and granola bars (for me) to have breakfast items on hand. One thing we didn't get - milk; it was $5.99 a gallon, aww hell no!

So again, you can tell we're eating the similar meals to previous weeks. This is on purpose for several reasons:
1. It helps to compare taste / quality vs price when we get the same type of items at each store
2. We're creatures of habit, me especially.  I seem to have a lot of failures with Pinterest recipes
3. It's meals we can agree upon. I believe that the person doing the cooking (me) shouldn't have to cook food the don't like, but also everyone in the house should be pleased with the meals so we've been sticking to some tried and true mutually agreeable meals.

Obviously I won't be able to give my thoughts until I cook but overall I like the shopping experience of Whole Foods. We spent $82 ($92 plus our coupon). $92 is pretty similar to spends on other weeks but we got less meat and had to be real careful not to just grab items but check prices. I'm most excited for the tomato cream pasta - I tend to crave this dish often and there's really only two spots in town that do it well , one is pricey and one is far from our home. And again, due to price and limited options there was less junk food purchased. I'm legitimately excited to get cooking with these items!

  1. Is it bad that I think the milk price is great for organic??? Don't shoot me but it is

Memphis Fashion Week 2017 Emerging Designers

The last night of Memphis Fashion Week is the favorite night for many local fashionistas because it shows off what is up and coming in our city. Once again I was able to grab a great seat and see the pieces up close.

First up for the evening was two time previous winner Tiena. I think it's easy to see why she's won twice before - just wow on these beautiful designs!

I love the model's expression here - it's like she just loves wearing this so much she can't contain it.

I love all of it but the yellow ruffle dress has to be my favorite, it's not a color I would typically be drawn to but there's something so nice about it!
Next up was the teen collection, these pieces were designed by beautiful young ladies all under 20. Once again, I am a complete and total life slacker. Seriously - I was blown away by how talented these girls are:

Sephora Play April 2017

This month's Sephora Play box featured some of the top selling Sephora products, here's what's inside:

Smashbox Photo Finish Primer
I currently use this primer and it helps my foundation go on smooth and keeps my face from getting too oily during the day. It's light weight and has no scent and one tube lasts a really long time - I bought mine before my wedding and that was six months ago.

Make Up For Ever Aqua XL eyeliner
The Make Up For Ever brand is very popular at Sephora and very nice quality products. This eyeliner doesn't smudge and goes on smooth.

Peter Thomas Roth Water Drench Cloud Cream
This is a primer / moisturizer combo and I really like the way it feels - very light weight and makes my skin feel silky

Kate Somerville ExfoliKate
This says it's an "intense exfoliator" but I found it to be very fine. The paste is ather think and a yucky green color with a heavy plant scent, but hey if it works who cares what it looks like.

Sephora Waterproof …

20 Guildelines for Financial Responsibility

As a blogger I constantly worry if I am supporting over consumerism and irresponsible spending. At the end of the day I can say Oh, I LOVE this item and it was so worth it to me but I have to hope that people are making the right decisions based on their own financial situation. But since finance is a passion of mine (it is my day job after all) and since so many of y'all are looking to focus on your own finances in 2019 I thought it might be good to take a step back from fashion and talk about the money honey! I don't claim to have all the answers or to be an expert, but I've learned a lot between my education, my career and to be honest making some bad financial decisions myself so I've complied a list of 20 guidelines for financial success from the basics to saving for the future. The Basics 1. You absolutely must be able to cover the four walls - your home and all utilities and maintenance - and your necessary expenses (food, car, gas) before you can think about…

Ipsy Glam Bag April 2017

OMG, Ipsy finally has a cute bag for the month!
Seriously, this month's coral ticket design bag is super cute and would make a fun little clutch for a night out at a festival or fair.
The items I received this month weren't terrible either. Here's what's inside my bag and my thoughts on each product:
OFRA Cosmetics Peach Blush $12 Everything I've received from this company in my Ipsy bad is a full-sized product (nice)! However they need to be in a refillable palette so that may not be your thing but I just found mine recently so this offends me less. This is overall a nice shade so I'll add it to my palette.
Hanalei Aloe Soothing Gel $30 This is a little more lightweight than the aloe gel you can get in a giant bottle at CVS but I'm skeptical yet if that makes it worth $30 for a jar. We're going to the beach in May so the timing is good and I'm sure I'll use the whole sample.
No Poreblem Primer $18 This is a nice, lightweight primer and has a …

20 Rules for Modern Feminine Style

One of the things I love about the digital age is the ability to connect with others! I recently got a great idea from a youtuber I follow to make a list of 20 "rules" that define my lifestyle and I really loved this idea and thought not only would this be a good exercise for myself but a good topic to share with y'all. So, obviously you do you and wear whatever you want but these are my guidelines for my modern feminine without breaking the bank aesthetic.
1. Focus on pieces with wear ability beyond one season, don't get sucked into too many trends. For example, gingham will always be wearable for summer, plaid for fall, sweaters for winter and floral for spring - but get pieces with classic cuts so you can wear them year after year. For example, a gingham shirt dress is classic, a gingham top with bell sleeves will look dated the second that shape is out. 2. Don't be afraid to spend a little more for quality timeless pieces - a cashmere sweater, a great blac…
