Wedding Wednesday - The Ceremony

Well y'all this is it, my last wedding post. It's been fun reminiscing and sharing some of the special details but it's time to  move from being a bride to being a wife. I've saved the best part of the day for last   - the ceremony!

My biggest non negotiable regarding the day was the ceremony. I grew up Catholic but Shaun did not want to get married in the Church, which I could agree to as long as we had a religious ceremony. Please don't take this as judgement on anyone else's relationship ( if you recognize yourself as married than I do too because marriage lives in your heart and shouldn't be subject to anyone else's standards)  but to me, in my heart, being legally married and married in the eyes of God is not the same thing. Legal marriage can be legally undone and while I think it's a smart idea to have ones marriage recognized by the government for practical purposes it is not a strong enough commitment for me. The till death do us part, bet…

Sephora Play January 2017

Hello friends!
Sepora Play is starting off the year really strong, I loved this month's box even though it included an item I already have. Check out my unboxing below:

For comparison, this was my IPSY bag for the month:

Although IPSY sent some good products too I'm declaring Sephora play the winner this month.
Since I already have the Clinique lip gloss, which I love btw, I'm giving this one away to one of y'all! Just comment on my Instagram post and a winner will be selected at random. I found a bunch of envelopes I purchased to do giveaways so I've got to get better at actually doing them.

Sensible Portions

I'm Sometimes you have to recognize your strengths and when it's time to outsource . For me a healthy lifestyle is not a strength. I love the idea of eating small healthy meals and working out everyday but then I get hangry and eat anything in sight. Or I have a busy weekend and don't have time to meal prep, and then I'm screwed for the week and one bad week turns into a bad month, and a bad year and a decade of gaining weight. So, when a sorority sister posted a meal plan she had found success with I was very interested. Shaun and I tried a similar program last year but it was very expensive ($170 for one person for 5 days) That's a great investment if you need to lose 10 or 20 lbs but when you have a lot to lose you need a long term plan that is viable from a time, nutrition and financial aspect.
Long term it's still pricey but I was very impressed with the value and results of sensible portions and decided to give it a try. Like most meal plans the plan is …

Wedding Wednesday - Sorority Sisters

I've already touched on some of these people but one of the most special things about my wedding was getting to share the day with sorority sisters.
At one point we were in a circle dancing on the dance floor singing loudly to our chapter song and I though this moment right here is exactly what I wanted when I signed up for recruitment years ago. Not literally just that moment though but the idea of not only having a support system in college but a lifetime connection with special ladies. We have seen each other grow from college kids who had a lot of fun to wonderful women - professionals, wives and mothers but still Gamma Phi Betas.
I've already talked about two of the ladies I went to college with that attended in our bridal party post but there were additional wonderful ladies there that I was so happy to celebrate with - Becky, Sam and Cara.

Becky was awesome enough to attend my bachelorette party and we had SO MUCH FUN! She's just an all around cool girl and we w…

Beauty Product Busts

I was going to do a review on each one of these but figured I could condense them into one post. Please keep in mind these were my personal experiences for products that I paid for.
Sephora hand and foot mask

These were supposed to be super moisturizing and since I was pleased with a similar product I had purchased at target I had high hopes for each. Total fail, neither made my skin softer or any less dry than before using the product. Just use a generous amount of regular lotion and normal socks and gloves overnight.
Perfectly Posh

I was recently invited to an online party and thought the products looked cool and were reasonably priced so why not give it a try. One of their signature products are "chunks" which are basically giant bars of soap - but they're supposed to be moisturizing , WRONG! Not only does my chunk make my skin literally squeaky clean (not a good thing, this means all the natural oils have been striped away) but it started to crack and break apart af…

Wedding Wednesday - Missing MOB

With only a few more wedding Wednesday posts I decided that I wanted to end on a positive note so today I’m going to go ahead and talk about the hardest part of the day – knowing that my Mom wasn’t there. For the most part I tried to not focus on this too much during the planning process when talking with others- the last thing I wanted was to be the woe is me Bride; but it was always on my mind. I felt a bit of sadness looking around at Bridal shows and realizing most brides were there with their Mom and there was the time when someone else’s Mom told me how lovely I looked in my dress during my final fitting because I was there all alone. There was looking at family wedding albums and knowing that I wouldn’t have a picture with both my parents and hosting the bridesmaid luncheon myself because I had no mother to host it for me, and that’s not their fault and I didn't think because of my circumstances they should miss out – I still wanted to honor them. But the hardest part was w…

Beauty Review - The Mask Vault

As I've previously mentioned I'm on a quest to become Rouge VIB at Sephora this year so of course that means a peaked interest in their product line. It may seem weird to renew my beauty interest after the wedding but last year my thought was hey if it ain't broke don't fix it - the last thing I needed was another peel disaster like I had in 2012 that took months to fix. But now that the most photographed day of my life has passed I'm ready to take risks again!
One product that really peaked my interest was the Mask Vault from Peter Thomas Roth. I love face masks but what I don't love is the price - $225! Luckily Sephora sells a much smaller and affordable set to provide an opportunity to try the set before making the investment. The set I purchased cost $25 and each sample was enough for 4 masks , which is actually a great price when you think how most singular dose packaged masks are $5 each.

Not only did I personally try out each one of these masks but I …

Wedding Wednesday - The Bridal Party

While weddings are a wonderful tome to celebrate family they can also be a very special time to celebrate with friends and we were very lucky to have wonderful friends who not only were there to support us on our big day but support us in life. During our portrait time before the ceremony we had enough time for me to take some nice pictures with each bridesmaid but some goofy ones too and if I'm being perfectly honest I kinda like the goofy ones better. MOH / Sorority Sister- Carrie  Carrie and I met through the alumnae group for Gamma Phi Beta and we hit it off right away. We have a ton in common and when there's something I really want to do that Shaun has no interested in she's usually the first person I think of. My favorite thing about Carrie though is that I see so many women claim that being a wife and especially a mother changes their lifestyle and they no longer have things in common with their single friends; well Carrie is a stay at home mom to two kids and un…

Closet Crisis - The Purge

Cleaning out and re-styling my closet is going to be a big focus for me in 2017. I get that might sound strange to some people to take so much time but here's the deal - I currently live in a small condo, I have a ton of clothes and I hate doing laundry; so what does this mean? It means my clothes have literally taken over the entire house! The bedroom closet is packed - there a large pile next to it of things to donate that never got taken in or things that got rejected while getting dressed and tossed on top , in the bathroom there's a big laundry pile on the floor and in the living room the loveseat is covered in clean laundry - so yeah, it's everywhere. So the first step is to simply get it all cleaned and hung up or donated so it can properly be sorted through. In the past I had too many items for them to all fit in the closet at once but I've already gone through one round of purge in October so I have the space and hangers now for it to be possible. The October…

Wedding Wednesday - The First Look

I don't know who started the idea of the first look but bless them! There's still a lot of people who want to wait for that moment when the bride walks down the asile to see eachother for the first time on the wedding day but personally I really enjoyed having some time with my husband to soak it all in before the walk down the asile, plus it allowed us to take all of our group pictures before the wedding and that's just more practical.

I have terrible eyesight and the distance between the bridal suite door and our ceremony arch was 60 feet - there was no way I was going to see his face down at the end of the asile so by doing a first look I actually got to see his reaction to seeing me in the big princess dress he wanted to see me in.

As much as I'd like to tell everyone I spent the morning being bridechilla that's s lie - I felt rushed, exhausted, and a little snappy; but all of that melted away in that moment when we saw eachother during the first look - I fe…

Foot Peel Review

Of all the beauty products I've ever tried this one is has the most combination of yuck and fascination. While I was busy living under my wedding planning rock last year a new trend emerged in the beauty world - foot peels. When I friend posted about doing on herself I knew I had to give it a try. I used the brand baby foot which I purchased off amazon for $18.

Honestly, I don't know the the deal with my feet are; I don't wear heels to often, I get regular pedicures, bathe daily, I'm not a runner and I use lotion on the regular but still I have cracked heels, calluses and just in general yucky feet.
Here's my foot on day 1 before starting the peel process. See what I mean?

The peel itself is very simple, the booties are pre-filled with the treatment and its recommended to soak feet first. To keep the booties secure I covered with fuzzy socks and chilled out while waiting for the magic to happen.
For the first week my feet were a little more dry than usual but …
