Wedding Wednesday - The Bridal Party

While weddings are a wonderful tome to celebrate family they can also be a very special time to celebrate with friends and we were very lucky to have wonderful friends who not only were there to support us on our big day but support us in life. During our portrait time before the ceremony we had enough time for me to take some nice pictures with each bridesmaid but some goofy ones too and if I'm being perfectly honest I kinda like the goofy ones better.

MOH / Sorority Sister- Carrie

Carrie and I met through the alumnae group for Gamma Phi Beta and we hit it off right away. We have a ton in common and when there's something I really want to do that Shaun has no interested in she's usually the first person I think of. My favorite thing about Carrie though is that I see so many women claim that being a wife and especially a mother changes their lifestyle and they no longer have things in common with their single friends; well Carrie is a stay at home mom to two kids and until a few months ago I was a single professional but guess what, we're besties!

Bridesmaid / Sister - Mary

I've known Mary since a few hours after she was born ; ) With eight years between us it's only recently as she's become all grown up that we've gotten to a point where we actually have thing in common although we've been stealing each others clothes for years now. Being my sister means Mary is allowed to call me out on BS like no one else is although our goofy picture is mostly a joke, she's even admitted I was not too much of a bridezilla.

Bridesman / Master of Beauty - Rodney

Rodney and I met through a fun social organization in Memphis and hit it off right away. Rodney has amazing style and is one of the few people I know that is more sarcastic than I am. In addition to looking fabulous himself Rodney was in charge of everyone's hair and makeup on the big day and has been keeping my hair beautifully highlighted for years now. I am ridiculously excited for Rodney because now he gets to plan his own dream wedding to a great guy!

Bridesmaid - Ryan

Ryan is one of the first adult friends I made in Memphis and she is one of the most kind and loving people I know. Through job changes, bad breakups and life mistakes Ryan has remained a true and constant friend so of course I couldn't imagine my wedding day without her by my side. Now that I'm a little older and a lot wiser we get to spend our time together bonding over our love of dogs and wine.

Bridesmaid - Ranee

Ranee and I started out at as co-workers and became fast friends. I obviously love her to death, I mean look how tiny and gorgeous she is - it takes a lot of love to let someone who looks like that stand next to you and make you look like a giant on your wedding day. Our goofy picture I one of my top 10 photos from the day and involves an inside joke.

Readers / Sorority Sisters - Tina and Casey

Beyond the bridesmaids there were two other fabulous ladies involved in the wedding. Tina and Casey are both Gamma Phis I've know since college. Tina was one of the first Gamma Phis I met when I attended Gamma Phi's open house recruitment event and as grown ups we get to chat about her fabulous sense of style and our mutual obsession over Mindy Kailing. Casey joined the year after me and has become the glue that holds a lot of the ladies from our chapter together by fostering ways for us to connect long distance all while being a super overachiever at work, an amazing wife and mom - seriously, I don't think she sleeps. Thanks to Casey and her fabulous planning skills I get to see them both, and other fabulous ladies, for our annual beach retreat which is a throw back to a tradition our chapter had in college.

On the grooms side we had wonderful bridal party members as well:

Best Man Ruben - A college friend of Shaun's
Groomsman Jason - Shaun's brother
Groomswoman Krysta - Groom's sister from another mister
Groomsman Vince - Groom's brother from another mother (Krysta and Vince are brother and sister and their family is like a 2nd family to Shaun)
Groomsman Terry - husband to MOH Carrie, together they are one of our best "couple friends"
Groomsman James - bromantic relationship that started the same day Shan and I met
Usher Daniel - Yelp Elite Superstar (fun fact: Daniel and I had mutual friends in high school and I even went with him to an MUS dance)

The Entire Bridal Party

All of these people helped make our day very special and we are so grateful for all of them!

Sensible Portions

I'm Sometimes you have to recognize your strengths and when it's time to outsource . For me a healthy lifestyle is not a strength. I love the idea of eating small healthy meals and working out everyday but then I get hangry and eat anything in sight. Or I have a busy weekend and don't have time to meal prep, and then I'm screwed for the week and one bad week turns into a bad month, and a bad year and a decade of gaining weight. So, when a sorority sister posted a meal plan she had found success with I was very interested. Shaun and I tried a similar program last year but it was very expensive ($170 for one person for 5 days) That's a great investment if you need to lose 10 or 20 lbs but when you have a lot to lose you need a long term plan that is viable from a time, nutrition and financial aspect.
Long term it's still pricey but I was very impressed with the value and results of sensible portions and decided to give it a try. Like most meal plans the plan is …

Plum Paper Designs - Fitness Insert

I know I say this every year but this year I also want to make wellness / fitness a priority. It's hard for me to get in the mindset of making it important because quite frankly it's not something my doctor gets onto me about. But during 2015 I've been making a switch to a more natural lifestyle and that has put fitness back at my top of mind. So, for $4.50 I got the fitness section added onto my Plum Paper Designs Planner
Here's what's inside:

A monthly layout for 12 months
Weight Loss Tracker at the Back

I LOVE the monthly layout! First off, having a hydration tracker for each day is going to be so nice. I also love the idea of holding myself accountable to writing down an activity (or excuse) each day. Most of all I love the recognition that each month will have different goals and includes some note sections ; one thing I hear a lot form people who successfully got fit was that they had some kind of tracking and were able to go back…

Top Ten Trends for Fall and What to Buy Now

I received several questions about the Nordstrom sale and this year I really felt like I would bite the bullet and make a post with recommendations and while I see myself always browsing the sale to see what's up and I'm not closed to doing a round up post in the future after reviewing this year's sale I just can't find the patience to put an entire post together. I always want this blog to be a place where I am authentic and real and not just a place to spew out what's popular but rather what trends speak to me. And I hate to disappoint people , I'm very flattered that there have been people to reach out and ask about my recommendations but I don't want to recommend things just for the sake of recommending things. I prefer to shop in season and with the weather in Memphis I just won't be wearing fall items until late October. Plus, a lot of the items I saw in the sale I liked are similar to items I already own and I don't need to be buying duplic…

20 Rules for Modern Feminine Style

One of the things I love about the digital age is the ability to connect with others! I recently got a great idea from a youtuber I follow to make a list of 20 "rules" that define my lifestyle and I really loved this idea and thought not only would this be a good exercise for myself but a good topic to share with y'all. So, obviously you do you and wear whatever you want but these are my guidelines for my modern feminine without breaking the bank aesthetic.
1. Focus on pieces with wear ability beyond one season, don't get sucked into too many trends. For example, gingham will always be wearable for summer, plaid for fall, sweaters for winter and floral for spring - but get pieces with classic cuts so you can wear them year after year. For example, a gingham shirt dress is classic, a gingham top with bell sleeves will look dated the second that shape is out. 2. Don't be afraid to spend a little more for quality timeless pieces - a cashmere sweater, a great blac…

Blue Vibes Living Room

I'm a pretty decisive person , so when we moved into our home in 2017 I had a pretty good idea of how I wanted to decorate most of the rooms and to me the living room is the most important. The living room is the heart of the home - it's where the family relaxes after a long day at work, where guests are entertained and one of the first impression you get of someone's home and style. But in 2017 decorating the living room I wanted just wasn't in the cards - but I'm a patient person when I really want something and was willing to wait.
Just like when I was planning our wedding when planning our home décor I turned to pinterest to find inspiration and hone in on what I was looking for. I knew that I wanted a blue velvet tufted sofa and quickly had about 20 on my new home board - but eventually one photo stood out and became the "pinspiration" for our living room.
