Planner Girl on a Budget

Every Sunday is my planning time. It's part hobby part having my life together as while planning is a creative release it also helps me go into the week with a clear mind. Last night I unintentionally created a layout that's super budget friendly so I thought I'd take an opportunity to talk about planning and spending. I am what might be referred to as a serial hobbyist - in the time that I've been writing this blog it's gone from spending all my time and money to any social opportunity available to Lilly Pulitzer to Essential Oils to Wedding Planning to now planning - and beauty and fashion but those have been pretty consistent. And when I get into something I have a tendency to go hard which usually equates to big spending. But here's the deal (as I write this I'm speaking just as much to an audience as I am to myself) you can be into a hobby without it costing a fortune. This is of course a generalization - if you want to take up sailboating as your ho…

Sephora Play February 2017

Last night my Sephora Play! Box arrived and since it seems like I’m one of the last people to get theirs I feel like an unboxing would be pointless since everyone’s box is pretty similar. But since I did get the opportunity to try all the products last night I’ll focus my post on product reviews rather than showing what’s inside. This month’s therem is the soft side and focused on neutral basics.
Clinique Pep Start HydroBlur Moisturizer
This one is interesting and I’m still not sure how I feel about it. It has more of a primer feel so on one hand the lazy part of me likes the idea of a two in one product. On the other hand I tried this at night and I could definitely “feel” this on my face and I kept feeling like I needed to wash my face and usually I like a makeup that doesn’t have an I’m wearing makeup feel about it. I’m intrigued enough though to continue to use the sample and make a decision with more uses.

This eye cream is unique because it has …

Fashionable in Memphis

I love many things about Memphis but the weather is not one of them. Usually we get winter weather in January, it warms up in February and then gets cold again in March and this year is no exception - today is a cloudy day where the weather can't decide if it should rain or not. With the funky weather and a low amount of social activities I find myself counting the days until spring and for me this year the fun and excitement of things to do begins in April and this year I'll kick off the month with Memphis Fashion Week. Last year I attended Memphis Fashion Week for the first time and wrote a brief post about my experience. And yes I realize my photos suck, this year I have a much better camera on my phone. Last year I attended one show and this year I have decided to spring for the VIP Package - which is a really great price IMO considering what's included for $200 - kickoff party, preview party, two shows with a VIP lounge and front row seats and a goodie bag. I'm …

Ipsy February 2017

It seems like it came a little late this month but my Ipsy glam bag arrived over the weekend.
Here's my unbagging to see what I got this month. This month's theme is much love. Lately I think the bag itself has sucked at conveying the theme and hope Ipsy goes back to have cute printed bags soon. But, I do love the products inside.   One thing I seem to always neglect to mention is that Ipsy is really great about working with featured brands to have giveaways and discounts for full size products - for example through Feb 27th you can get 35% off any Trust Fund Beauty order with the code glambag35. So, even if you don't subscribe you should still check out the Ipsy site if there's a product you're interested in. I'll be placing my TFB order next week to take advantage of the discount.
Of course, for $10 a month shipped I think subscribing to Ipsy is a good idea and several of my now must have beauty items are products I discovered through Ipsy. I have received …

February 2017 Beauty Favorites

I haven't true any big beauty items lately worthy of their own post but there have been a few beauty items to become staples for me that I do think are worthy of sharing.
First off, lips. It seems like everyone and their mother is selling lip sense as the newest and greatest MLM and while there's nothing wrong with a home based business I just don't like a glossy lip. Plus, the price point is outrageous IMO - fifty something dollars for a lipstick and gloss , nope. I do however love the idea of a long lasting lipstick so lately I'm loving the Sephora collection lip stain. I received a sample in a shade of red in my December Play Box and knew I needed other colors. I picked up this pretty neutral while I was in for my most recent makeover. These lips stains are $14 which is w price point I am much more comfortable with. And yes, there was some wearing off but my lips still had plenty of color after six cups of tea.

For my face I'm really into the Clark's Bota…

$40 Date - Date Box

A few years ago I did a series of posts here called $40 dates and I really need to bring those back! Today is Valentine's Day and while it's nice to have a day to celebrate love it's not something we can touch on just once in a while and expect to last - so today I have a fun idea for cute date nights.

Date Box is $34.95 a month and sends everything you need for a fun date night at home - I think this is especially great for parents because getting a sitter can really add to the expense and hassle of a date night. Each box has a theme and takes 2 to 3 hours, which I think is perfect.
Can you guess what this month's theme is from the contents?

Don't worry, neither can I. Each box also comes with a book that explains the theme and box contents, provides any instructions for the activity, has conversation starters, and a Spotify playlist for the date.

To see what's in this month's date box check out my  unboxing. If you are interested in getting your own d…

My Planner Life

Happy Monday y’all and happy Valentine’s week! My Valentine is actually out of town this week so I’ll be celebrating this weekend. It seems during the winter month’s there’s not a lot of exciting things going on so it will be nice to up our date night game for one week.

If you follow me on instagram than you’ve probably seen me post a lot of stationary and planner goodies lately. I’ve actually been a stationary addict my entire life but I got into the “glam planning” scene about two years ago. Glam Planning basically means that I don’t just writer stuff down in a planner or use my phone to keep up with appointments – I have monthly and weekly layouts decorated with washi, stickers, stamps and markers each week. Some people use kits each week and have no white space in their planner, others use mostly lettering with maybe a few function stamps and stickers – my planning style have developed somewhere in-between. My current planner is the Mambi Happy Planner which I purchased from Micha…

Without a Party

I really thought 2017 would be the year I would do it - the year I would stop talking about politics on this blog but I just can't do it. Yes, I like fashion and crafting and all sorts of "girly" things but sometimes you just have to be a serious person and talk about serious issues and I've realized through conversations that more and more people may feel the way I'm feeling. Until last summer I always considered myself a Republican and always voted along party lines but I felt more and more like the GOP didn't represent me, who I am as a person and my beliefs and I decided I no longer wanted to be associated with it. I say that I feel more aligned with the libertarian party but I find some of their abolish government ideals to be a little too extreme for my comfort and while I agree with democrats on many issues there are still those I find to be too based in a utopia rather than our actual society and thus I find myself without a party. Immigration - The…

Relationship Rules

This is a post I've wanted to write for a very long time but I never felt like it was the right time, but now that we've seen the relationship through (ie got married) I feel like I'm in a position to discuss. So, with Valentine's Day approaching I thought now is a seasonally appropriate time to talk about relationships.
First off can I just say that I am so glad to not have to date anymore - not in a haha I'm married and you're not way but in a girl, I've been there and I get it - it's HARD attitude. Looking back on my own dating life I can say with absolute confidence that one of my biggest "problems" was feeling the pressure to follow all the "rules". Please y''all as someone on the other side let me just keep it real for you - YOU DON"T HAVE TO FOLLOW ANYONE"S RULES WHEN IT COMES TO YOUR LOVE LIFE! What kind of rules am I talking about? Well, let's start off with the ridiculous notion that a woman can'…

Kate Spade Activity Tracker

Whether you know me in real life or just follow me on social media you should have picked up on the fact that I love the Kate Spade brand. So last fall when Kate Spade announced a line of activity trackers I was in. In fact, I love my tracker so much that when I lost it I bought the exact same one.

I got one of the early generation fit bits and overall liked it but I had two main challenges with it- it's not attractive and I hated having to charge it / loose it for periods of time due to having to take it apart to charge - right now I think it's in the pocket of a purse I haven't used in a while - emphasis on I think that's where it is. This is really silly but I cannot emphasize enough how important it is to me for products I use to be functional but attractive - I like my kitchen gadgets to all coordinate, I only drink from "cute" tumblers and I'm a sucker for any functional but cute product so the Kate Spade design is a big winner for me.

Sometimes …
