Wardrobe Wednesday - Sequin Skirt

I love skirts and I always have. When I was a kid I wore skirts to school most day (fact: I didn't  own a pair of jeans until I was 11) and although I wear jeans to work frequently as an adult skirts are still my favorite article of clothing. A few weeks ago I posted about my love for tulle skirts but another novelty skirt I love is the sequin skirt. I got my first sequin skirt in 2015 and it quickly became my night out / party staple. This was pretty much my uniform for the 2015 holiday season:
looking back I think a non turtleneck would have been better. When it was time for my bachelorette party I broke from the bride wears white tradition and work my favorite party skirt. Yeah, this picture is poor quality, there's not a lot of pictures from this night so this is what I've got. Recently though I decided to take my "party skirt" and see if I could make it work for a daytime look. Here I have paired with a chambray top and boots.
Although I'd prefe…

Wedding Guest PSA

Over the weekend my husband and I packed up all of the wedding gifts we received and moved them into storage in preparation of our anticipated move later this year and it was a wonderful reminder of all the love and support we received during our wedding. Because I personally enjoyed hearing from recent brides in wedding chats prior to our wedding I am still in a wedding chat and from time to time will comment when something similar to something we experienced pops up in my newsfeed. One thing that I see a common frustration with is guest lists and as a recent bride I  have a few thoughts on this. Since it's almost time for the 2017 wedding season to begin which means invites for spring weddings have already gone out I figure now is a good time for a little PSA when it comes to wedding invites. Our wedding invite Not only from my own wedding but from my numerous conversations with fellow brides I can say with certainty that the guest list is one of the biggest considerations a c…

New Year, New Name, New Blog

Ok, so it's past the "new year" mark but as we've settled into married life I've thought about what my next big project would be and also reflected on how my life has changed over the years and I've decided I really want to focus on this blog as my project for 2017 so with that are some big changes. I started this blog in 2009 as kinda of a documentation of a girl who never cared about football trying turn herself into a football fan and it quickly became much more than that. Over the almost eight year I've been writing this blog my life has changed A LOT and I blogged about most of it. This blog pretty much became a personal journal documenting my ups and downs and everything in between but as I've thought about the direction I want to go in I've realized those posts doesn't really belong here and so I've taken them down. I want to be completely honest about this rather than give any fuel for speculation so here's my reasons straigh…

$40 Date - Sushi Jimmi

For the longest time in Memphis some of the best sushi in town came from a gas station. Everyone from Memphis reading this is now nodding and smiling and everyone out of town now has now scrunched up their face and is saying "eww". But seriously, "Sushi Jimmi" has been making sushi daily and delivering it to be sold in the little pre-packed containers for years and it is so good. Luckily for Memphians we can now get this delicious sushi fresh and it's a prefect place for a casual date night. Sushi Jimmi is not a fancy or hip décor filled sushi joint - it's in an old Wendy's. But it's clean, convenient and most of all -cheap! Here's the menu: The sushi rolls are very generous! We are able to go and split the crawfish nachos and one sushi roll so with tax and tip we can get out on $30.
The Godzilla Roll
Spicy Crawfish Nachos The food comes out pretty quickly so we're usually in and out in an hour leaving us time to catch a movie at the $3 …

Wardrobe Wednesday - Little Black Dress

When I first posted about my closet crisis I mentioned how not having a basic black dress was the catalyst for realizing I needed a new approach to my wardrobe. I initially set $250 as my budget to buy a nice, versatile black dress but that was easier said than done - this is apparently not the price point for black dresses as the ones I found were either too high or too low. So, I decided to give myself a few months to decide if saving $500 for a black dress was something I wanted to do but in the meantime I didn't feel I could wait a few months to have a black dress in my closet. The Dress I purchasing this Nic and Zoe dress from Nordstrom Rack for $96 and although its a softer material that I was looking for it did meet my big requirements of having sleeves and a flared skirt. For being a heavy knit it has pretty good structure and I'm very pleased with the purchase and the quality of this brand - I see future items making their way into my closet. In general I think one…

Ipsy Glam Bag March 2017

My Ipsy glam bag arrived at the end of last week and since I'm still having issues uploading to you tube I'm sharing what's inside and what I think here.

This month's bag is an improvement from prior months but still kinda meh, I really miss the bags with fun prints. At this point I feel like receiving the bag is a total waste.

I typically enjoy facemasks and am looking forward to giving this one a try, sadly this is the only product I was pleased to receive this month.
I am not a fan of the shade of this blush, I prefer pinks and this looks to bronzeresque. This lip gloss is nice enough but I wish it was in a more fun color, I will add this to my trade stash because the last thing I need is another neutral lip product.
Ipsy sends me a lot of eye shadow brushes, this is frustrating because I don't give them good feedback that this is something I like receiving and quite frankly I don't thing this one is that nice.
I recently received this hair mask in my…

$40 Date - Brunch

I really need to start doing $40 dates again. I'll admit - it's easier just to go to some of our existing favorite spots or just spend a little more but we're trying to spend less eating out and there's so many new places around town I need to be more adventurous in our date planning but we recently went to a newish place in town so I thought it would make a good post as we're preparing for the weekend. Shaun works frequently on weekends so it's very rare that we get to just have a relaxing day together. A few weeks ago we found ourselves with a Sunday with no agenda for the day so I made the suggestion we visit The Kitchen at Shelby Farms as I had been a few weekends prior and LOVED it. The restaurant and patio overlook Patriot lake and my original intent was that we do a lap or two around the lake and then eat but it wound up being cold the day we went but in the future we'll absolutely do this as part of the outing. View from our patio table - it'…

Spice up your Closet - Victoria Beckham for Target Collection

Well it's finally here! Yesterday afternoon Victoria Beckham had a tea themed event (sigh, so jealous) to show off the full collection for her collaboration with Target. This article from Vouge shows most of the pieces in the collection.
As I suspected, I am going to have a VERY hard time deciding what to get. Luckily the price points are wonderful - most ladies dresses are $35 and separates are $28. Most of my predictions held true - flounce skirts, bell sleeve tops, one of the dresses is pretty dead on for the waist emphasizing top I put in my last post. Also, like I predicted all the models are wearing strappy shoes with the looks. I am surprised that the pieces feel more trendy than I feel like Victoria Beckham is known for being but I guess it's one way to distinguish this collab from her ready - to - wear and VVB lines. There's also lots of scallop trims which I did not predict but I should have.
Some of the pieces are too busy or too trendy in my opinion but ther…
