$40 Date - Lantern Light Festival

If you live in Memphis and drive a car than I'm sure you've heard the advertisements for the Lantern Light Festival. Always on the prowl for different date nights I secured tickets for Shaun and I to go the first weekend they were open but sadly I'm just now getting around to sharing. We got ours on groupon for $15 each which left us money for food to keep this a $40 date but tickets are currently $20 each and the festival is in town through May 21st.

The lanterns are actually large figures made out of silk with lights inside providing the illumination.

When we first entered I was a little disappointed because it didn't seem like much but once we followed the dragon we found a section tucked away from the parking area where all of the lanterns were displayed.

I don't want to show y'all too many pictures because that would ruin the fun if you do go. I will say they are fun and cool to look at but I also think the radio ad is a bit dramatic. There seems to be a lot of winter themed lanterns so I have to wonder if this started as a Christmas time exhibit.

We ate dinner before attending but there were several food vendors there and they had several activities for the kids. There was also a stage where Chinese acrobats preformed and that was pretty cool.

Do I think the event itself is worth $20 a person? Not really, but I was really nice to be able to do something different and there's value in new experiences. We were at the festival for about 1.5 hours but we didn't sit to watch the acrobats so we could have made it a longer trip.

If you're looking for something different to do this month I recommend checking it out.

Trunk Club Review

Recently I saw the trunk club service advertised on instagram and I was very interested. The service started as a personal shopping service for men but since being purchased by Nordstrom has expanded the service offering to women. The basic premise is something similar to Stich Fix - create a profile providing sizes, likes and dislikes, converse with a stylist and be sent a box with 10 items to try on -keep what you like and send back the rest. This service has a $25 styling fee that is waived for Nordstrom card holders. When I first created my profile I knew that I wanted to add some tops to my wardrobe but I was really looking for a dress to wear to my brother in laws upcoming wedding. I was super excited when my assigned stylist indicated I could request specific items and there were three items I asked to be included. Before the trunk is sent out you have the option to preview, decline any items that are not what you're looking for and then either just get the previewed item…

Fall Fashion 2017

Ok, so I know once labor day passes we get all excited and consider it fall but officially it starts this Friday. Right now here in the south mother nature still hasn't made up her mind - we've had beautiful days in the 70s and chilly nights but we still get some days in the 90s too. It makes fall fashion a wee bit difficult so I find myself waiting until Thanksgiving weekend before I even think about busting out a sweater. Luckily this year a lot of the trends can work for this it's fall but it doesn't really feel like it weather. I think it is important for any fashionista to think about what trends he or she would like to incorporate into their style for the current season. Fashion is after all supposed to be a form of expression so it never makes sense to me to wear something just because it's "in". For example camo is big this year, but it's not my style and not something you'll ever see me in. However, there's a lot of trends this year…

Beg and Borrow Apparel

Last spring I featured Beg + Borrow in my Memphis Fashion Week coverage and I knew I wanted to get something as soon as I saw it.  Beg + Borrow is a Memphis Fashion brand featuring custom shirts and shirt dresses for women. Who doesn't love a good shirt dress? They're comfortable, versatile and give an effortless chic style. Back in April I was just starting to focus on paring down my closet and knew that this would make a great piece to own - plus each dress is custom, how fun is that? Beg + Borrow creator Monte Stewart is really great to work with and the process was much easier than I expected it to be. My biggest motivator in getting a Beg + Borrow dress is accommodating my large chest - I have very few off the rack button up items because typically when they fit everywhere else they are subject to buttons popping open on the chest - and length, because it's hard being a 5'10 girl in a 5'6 world y'all. After a few emails back and forth I met with Monte at…

Lancer The Method Review

As a teen I never broke out but in college and my adult life it was a completely different story. Then when I turned 33 it seemed like that was going to be the magic age where the adult acne stopped, and for the most part it has but now I get some pesky flair ups during my period - I hate this because well duh, don't we all hate acne? But also I feel like I might as well be wearing a giant neo sign that says HEY, I"M ON MY PERIORD Y'ALL! Not that having a period is weird or anything to be ashamed of but it feels so personal and the rest of the world knowing exactly what is going on with my body just bothers me. Point being, I'm always on the look out for ways to deal with this little monthly annoyances. Lucky for me right as my last cycle was ending and I had one stubborn spot in particular to deal with The Method arrived. This skin care routine is a three step process meant to be used together. and for the past few weeks I have been following the daily routine.

Sephora Play September 2017

I recently decided to stop my Ipsy subscription so now Sephora Play is my only beauty sample box each month. I still enjoy getting beauty samples but I just don't need that many. Here's what inside this month:
DevaCurl Melt into Moisture Conditioning Treatment $36
This smells so nice and has a good thick formula, I like this better than the last conditioning treatment I received. I typically use a salt shampoo once a week and then use a conditioning treatment and I wouldn't mind switching to this one. Benefit Gimme Brow $24
I naturally have thick brows so I don't regularly use brow products but it is nice to make them look a little more polished. Stilla Stay All Day Eyeliner $22 This eyeliner goes on super thin and has good staying power. I like marker style liner but I prefer a bit thicker of a tip, I had a hard time keeping such a thin line steady. Laura Mercier Velour Lovers Lip Colour $28 I really like the color -happy, it's a pinkish red and I really like the …
