$40 Date - Lantern Light Festival

If you live in Memphis and drive a car than I'm sure you've heard the advertisements for the Lantern Light Festival. Always on the prowl for different date nights I secured tickets for Shaun and I to go the first weekend they were open but sadly I'm just now getting around to sharing. We got ours on groupon for $15 each which left us money for food to keep this a $40 date but tickets are currently $20 each and the festival is in town through May 21st.

The lanterns are actually large figures made out of silk with lights inside providing the illumination.

When we first entered I was a little disappointed because it didn't seem like much but once we followed the dragon we found a section tucked away from the parking area where all of the lanterns were displayed.

I don't want to show y'all too many pictures because that would ruin the fun if you do go. I will say they are fun and cool to look at but I also think the radio ad is a bit dramatic. There seems to be a lot of winter themed lanterns so I have to wonder if this started as a Christmas time exhibit.

We ate dinner before attending but there were several food vendors there and they had several activities for the kids. There was also a stage where Chinese acrobats preformed and that was pretty cool.

Do I think the event itself is worth $20 a person? Not really, but I was really nice to be able to do something different and there's value in new experiences. We were at the festival for about 1.5 hours but we didn't sit to watch the acrobats so we could have made it a longer trip.

If you're looking for something different to do this month I recommend checking it out.

Target Spring 2018 Try On

Spring is here! Well, maybe . . . here in Memphis we're back to think funky weather where it's in the 60s one day and freezing the next. But, spring fashion is hitting stores so close enough. While I usually start buying and wearing spring fashions for the year in March I decided this year with my theme of being more strategic with my wardrobe to go ahead and start trying things on so I can start thinking about what to ultimately buy.  Target has been killing it lately with fashion and they have several lines I love so knowing that I have a pretty healthy amount of skirts and I have jeans I love that I'd really want to be adding to my top collection I decided to make target my first try on stop. Unfortunately I discovered that the plus sizes of the Who What Wear brand are no longer carried in stores, at least not in my area anyway (I went to five Targets looking for it). Target does however have a line that is exclusive to plus sizes - Ava + Viv, and A New Day which come…

Valentine Outfit Inspo

OMG Valentine's Day is this week! That just kinda snuck up on me. Thank goodness my hubby made a reservation weeks ago, now I need to just figure out what to wear. When I originally shot some Valentine looks I picked two tops that I thought were appropriate and mixed them with a few different skirts to show how you can get different looks mixing and matching. First I wanted to mix red and pink but do so in a sophisticated manner without looking childish - I think by wearing something that just has accents of pink instead of a full on pink top it works, plus an off the shoulder look makes the outfit more sexy and mature instead of sweet. But, I also did want to show this top in a more romantic way and I think the soft pink and soft velvet material of the skirt gives that look.   Next I mixed red and pink again and although I was worried how two solid colored pieces would look I think the deep red really compliments the blush of the pink well, plus I love the mixing of luxe fabri…

Dave and Busters Memphis

Last week Shaun and I had the opportunity to attend the preview for the Memphis location of Dave and Busters that is opening today. For Shaun it was fun to see the location in our home town but he was already familiar with the concept but for me it was first time to get the D&B experience. If you're ot familiar with D&B here's the simplest way I can describe it -Chuck E Cheese for adults, minus the ball pit (which would be awesome, but I digress). For entertainment there are dozens of tv to watch sporting or other popular events - this would be a great Olympic games watching spot. There's an extensive menu and lots of fun cocktails on the bar menu and the food was pretty yummy. But the main attraction of any D&B is the arcade - which has any game you could think of. In the bar area all the Memphis teams are printed across the wall and in the dining area is a large wall filled with Memphis iconic images - personally I love when businesses embrace the city the…

Society Plus Tutu Skirts

"Well, don't you look all princessey" my hubby said to me as he took photos of this look . . . which makes sense considering that's what it says on the label. . . .

See, I wasn't kidding. All Society+ items actually come with a fun affirmation label, which is just a fun brand touch but it's certainty true for this outfit.   I remember when tulle skirts first became popular a few years ago and I thought oh no way I could wear that, I would look huge and ridiculous; but then I tried one on and you know what - I felt FABULOUS! I actually think while tulle skirts look fabulous on anyone they are perfect for plus size women because they're not overwhelming. Plus hello, they're fun and pretty.

I've been wearing tulle for a couple of years now but it's only been recently that I've worn a Society+ Tutu Skirt and let me just say - what a difference! Each tutu skirt has 5 layers of tulle which gives a nice level of poof. The waist band is super co…

Shelby Jewel

I really wanted to have this post up yesterday but if you've been following my instagram stories at all you will have seen that I remembered this weekend that I still needed to refinish my dining room table if I had any hopes of using it for Thanksgiving (and yes, I am on track to finish it tonight, Woohoo!) So here I am a day late but not a dollar short with a post on some fun fashion finds. Last week I attended the preview party for a new online boutique started by Memphis Blogger Shelby Jewel. Shelby has beautiful taste so I knew I was interested in checking out her boutique. Nothing says welcome like a glass of Champagne! Racks of beautiful tops Swoon worthy Jackets Pretty Tassel Earrings So, I'll admit I was very nervous about this event, Shelby is very small and most boutique sizes are small as well - I am not. But, I really wanted to see the pretty things and thought hey, you never know. As I predicted clothing is available in S - L but I have found that with some bou…
