Date Box - Sushi Making

Happy Monday friends! Let's start the week with something exciting - A GIVEAWAY!

Y'all know I love subscription boxes and the most fun of the ones I receive is Date Box. Date Box puts together a fun date night idea and sends all the supplies right to our door. Confession - I have a stack of four boxes we haven't used. Honestly - space has been an issue but all of that will change soon as we move ot our new house. AND, since we'll be focusing on furnishing our home having a back log of boxes (ie dates without spending money) will be really nice. This month the folks at Date Box included a gift card for a free box to giveaway so checkout my instagram to enter.

But first, let me show you our most recent box:

This month's date is a sushi making night and includes the materials needed to make the sushi and a shopping list for the fresh ingredients. One thing I really like about Date Box is that it gives you great ideas that you could repeat by using the included tools and just repurchasing materials.

In addition to making sushi the date includes two additional activities, Sudoku and origami. There's also a spotify list included each month to set the mood.

Here's the sushi suggestions, but you could also go rouge and find a recipe online because the items included aren't specific to any roll.

In addition we received a gift card to Hello Fresh, which is exciting because we've definitely been considering this service.

Here's the tea cups that came in the box, how cute!

I'm really excited to make sushi in our new kitchen next month but even more excited to be able to share the fun with one of y'all. Good luck!

Birthday Discounts

Woohoo! It's my birthday week y'all! Birthdays are always a great time for brands to make customers special and each year I'm able to take advantage of some pretty good discounts in July so I thought I would share the love and talk about some of my favorite discounts and how to get them.

My absolute favorite discount is from Kendra Scott! During your birthday month you can receive one regular item at 50% off. It's your first time you'll have to show your id in store and sign up for their email list but then once they have you on file you can just go into the store and say that you would like to apply your birthday discount to your purchase and give your email address. This year I purchased the Tatiana Long Pendant Necklace which usually sells for $175. This necklace takes the look of the popular Rayne necklace and really amps it up.
If jewelry is your thing you can also get a $10 credit from Charming Charlie - this discount is sent to Charm Rewards members at the…

Plus Size Boudoir

I’ve had this post on my idea list for months and each month I find myself hesitating and pushing to the next list but somehow the timing now just feels good. Before the wedding I booked a bridal boudoir session – to me this served two main purposes one was the obvious to have some sexy pictures for my husband but two and the reason I think other ladies should book a session is to feel glamorous, sexy and confident going into the wedding. Of course, I don’t think you need to be getting married to do a session but for me that timing just felt right. This isn’t going to be a picture heavy posts – the whole point was to have pictures for my husband and I think that takes away the specialness if I share them all with the world; also I only have physical copies of the photos, no digitals. But I do think it’s important that if I’m going to write this post to share a few images so please understand the quality of a picture of a picture isn’t the best but you get the idea. The goal here is le…

Beach Essentials

Summer time inevitably  means a trip to the beach. Growing up my husband and I had very different ways of beaching - he being from southern California is used to just taking a towel and maybe a boogie board while I grew up with a little more "princessey" way of beaching - chairs, umbrella, blanket, beach bag with supplies for the day. True story - I was shocked the first time I went to the beach with my husband and his family used the same towel they had on the sand to dry off with. Over our years together we've melded our styles - mostly him admitting that it's nice to sit in actual chairs.

Even if we're only going for a few hours I always bring a tote with what I consider some "beach essentials" - sunglasses, a water bottle, a magazine or book, a hair brush, some hair ties or clip, and of course sunscreen.

Summer Beauty

I feel like Memorial Day is really the kickoff to summer but if you want to be technical yesterday was the first day of summer and it got me thinking about how I change up my beauty routine for summer. I know that it's recommended to change up beauty routines seasonally but I find that I can get away with the same routine for fall, spring and winter  - but summer is a different story and I find myself with different needs during the hot and humid Memphis summer months. Here's some of my summer beauty favorites.
Ogx Quenching Sea Mineral Moisturizing Lotion $7.99 I love this lotion because it's not to thick but not watery thin and it does a good job of keeping skin soft and moisturized without being greasy - plus the nice light sea scent is great for this time of year.
Christophe Robin Cleansing Purifying Scrub with Sea Salt $19 This shampoo scrub is great once a week for gently deep cleansing and get hair squeaky clean - I find it really preps hair to accept the moisture o…

Saying Goodbye

If we're friends on Facebook than you might have picked up on why I didn't blog last week - my grandmother passed away last Wednesday. I know I said I want to keep this blog focused on specific topics and less emotional one but the reality is I write it and while I have a whole list of topics I had planned on blogging last week and this week I feel like it's just not right. I still have a few "personal" posts up - my one about being motherless and childless had some readership over the past week being that Sunday was Mother's Day - and today I'm going to add one more personal post. As y'all know my husband and I are moving in June and I'm so glad that on our last "social" day together (we saw her several days in the hospital before she passed) we got to show my Grandma our new house. Our current condo isn't very wheelchair friendly so for the past few years we have been going out to eat on holidays and we were really excited to hos…
