Monobox April 2017

Oh y'all - I've been so neglectful of my social media of the past week but I have a good excuse - WE"RE BUYING A HOUSE! I'm sure I'll have some home posts over the next few months as well move, get settled in and make our house a home and my posts be a little less frequent over the next month but I do have some items to share with y'all included my most recent Monobox.

The Monobox is offered by I Love Jewelry and I have a love / hate relationship with the company. On one hand I love the products and it's fun to receive a monogramed item every month but on the other the customer service is TERRIBLE if you have any issues and ordering non subscription items from them takes forever to arrive - like 6 to 8 weeks. It's really frustrating to see the company constantly selling on social media when it's clear they have problems fulfilling their orders and especially because they promote season and trendy items. So, buyer beware if you order from this company that it will take a really long time.

The monoboxes do however ship on a consistent basis and the theme for April was Rainy Daze.

Each box is $21.95 plus shipping and includes one monogramed item and two accessories. This month's monogramed item was a rain poncho and came with a matching umbrella and pouch.

The monogram is on the hood of the poncho, I think on the front would have been better but whatever. I've already worn mine so my white monogram has gotten dirty.

They say April showers bring May flowers but in Memphis we always seem to get a lot of rain in May. I really like this set because it's less bulky than my rain jacket and the poncho folds up into the pouch and fits with the umbrella and is lightweight to stick in a purse or suitcase.

I used this set most recently when we were out and about looking at homes on a rainy day and yes, that is our new home in the background. Because it's thin it doesn't get hot which rain jackets can get sometimes - perfect for those summer storms.

In the past Monoboxes were announced before the month so you could decide if you wanted it that month but they have now moved towards the items being a surprise, so we'll see if next month continues to make this subscription worth it but no matter what I know I'll get lots of use out of this set.

Plum Paper Designs - Fitness Insert

I know I say this every year but this year I also want to make wellness / fitness a priority. It's hard for me to get in the mindset of making it important because quite frankly it's not something my doctor gets onto me about. But during 2015 I've been making a switch to a more natural lifestyle and that has put fitness back at my top of mind. So, for $4.50 I got the fitness section added onto my Plum Paper Designs Planner
Here's what's inside:

A monthly layout for 12 months
Weight Loss Tracker at the Back

I LOVE the monthly layout! First off, having a hydration tracker for each day is going to be so nice. I also love the idea of holding myself accountable to writing down an activity (or excuse) each day. Most of all I love the recognition that each month will have different goals and includes some note sections ; one thing I hear a lot form people who successfully got fit was that they had some kind of tracking and were able to go back…

20 Rules for Modern Feminine Style

One of the things I love about the digital age is the ability to connect with others! I recently got a great idea from a youtuber I follow to make a list of 20 "rules" that define my lifestyle and I really loved this idea and thought not only would this be a good exercise for myself but a good topic to share with y'all. So, obviously you do you and wear whatever you want but these are my guidelines for my modern feminine without breaking the bank aesthetic.
1. Focus on pieces with wear ability beyond one season, don't get sucked into too many trends. For example, gingham will always be wearable for summer, plaid for fall, sweaters for winter and floral for spring - but get pieces with classic cuts so you can wear them year after year. For example, a gingham shirt dress is classic, a gingham top with bell sleeves will look dated the second that shape is out. 2. Don't be afraid to spend a little more for quality timeless pieces - a cashmere sweater, a great blac…

Jessica London Style Swap

One of my favorite things about social media is how it has become this wonderful shared collective space. When it comes to fashion I love styling outfits and mixing up items in my closet but I also love seeing how other people style the pieces I have and I am always getting style inspiration from others.
In that spirit this month I teamed up with Lexi Nimmo to share some of our favorite pieces for fall from Jessica London. Lexi and I recently discovered that we have the same taste in clothing and tend to pick a lot of the same pieces so we thought it would be fun to team up and style some of the same items on purpose for once. We each picked two items so we could have four looks each to share.
Lexi picked a leather moto jacket and sleeveless mock neck sweater. I decided to get the jacket in blue instead of the traditional black because I wear a lot of blue as is so I knew it would go with a lot of things in my closet. For the mock neck sweater I went with a cream color because I’ve …

How to enjoy your patio in style

I have a confession - I have two tables for dining inside my home and right now neither is suitable for sitting down and having a meal at. Between all the travel and every single weekend for the past few months being filling with either heading out on a trip, coming home from a trip or catching up on laundry and packing for the next trip eating at home and keeping an neat house just hasn't been a priority. So the kitchen table has turned into a grocery staging area and kitchen odds and ends and the dining table has become my package receiving area and suitcase staging. So with the weather suitable for dining al fresco I was thrilled when the folks at Full Beauty Brands reached out about creating an outdoor oasis for our back patio.

My husband Shaun does a pretty good job of mowing the lawn on a regular basis and we have a service to spray to keep the grass green and the weeds at bay but despite our best efforts the grass will not grow right around our patio because the roof sha…

In my Thirtys, Flirty and Thriving

There’s something about birthdays that makes me very reflective. Turning 34 felt like nbd but 35 has me all whoa, wait a minute how did this happen so I’m feeling extra reflective this year and thought this might be a good space to share some of the conclusions I’ve come to over the past year. Plus cake smash pictures, because why not?
Looking back I think I spent a lot of my 20s caring about the wrong things and taking myself too seriously , at 35 I shrug my shoulders at a lot in life so I thought jumping on this goofy trend of adults  doing birthday photo shoots would be a good way to acknowledge my freedom from seriousness. I’m not saying that there’s never a time and place to be serious but life is short , live a little.

The older I’ve become the more I’ve adopted an IDGAF mentality and the less of a people pleaser I am. At the end of the day I am my own responsibility, my happiness , my well being , my life is all my responsibility so I’ve found myself putting myself first. I …
