Summer Fashion Refresh

My wardrobe makeover is focused on investing in quality classic pieces in my closet I think it's good to get a few inexpensive, trendy pieces each season to keep myself from getting bored or feeling the need to go out and buy everything new. Here's some of the trends I've decided to add to my wardrobe this summer:

White Pants Every summer I buy a new pair of white linen pants. I'd love to keep them in pristine condition but usually by the end of summer I've had enough trips and spills that causes the current pair to be tossed. Knowing that I will NEVER be able to keep white pants for more than a few months I get mine at Old Navy. Old Navy White Linen Pants $25

Palm Print It seems like palm prints are everywhere this season and while there's plenty of designers who have embraced this trend there's also plenty of mass retailers offering this trend at a low price point. I purchased this top from Old Navy for the tropical theme day at work (hence the loud earr…

Prep Obsessed - 4th of July Mailer

Although it's not a subscription box I find that the girls at Prep Obsessed offer enough fun mystery mailers that I can order one at least once a month. For June I received the 4th of July mailer. This mailer was $39.99 and included a tank, koozie. bag, tumbler, earrings and scarf.

Here's a closer look at some of the items: I like the print of this tank and I like that it's a thicker cotton - I feel like I can actually wear outside this as it's not thin or see-through, although it is comfortable just to sleep in.
Close up on the tervis tumbler print from Simply Southern - so cute!
Wearing the accessories in my horrible lighting office - these earrings aren't overly patriotic and I feel like I will get a lot of wear out of them. It's too warm to wear a scarf right now but the mailer is such a great value I don't mind its inclusion.
I'm going to use this bag as a clutch this summer - it matches pretty well with the tote in my last Monobox so I'll p…

Wardrobe Wednesday - New Shoes

I've been focused a lot on clothing with the wardrobe makeover but a significant amount of my investment pieces to buy this year were shoes - so in May I decided I really needed to focus my next buys on that. As I was packing for the move I realized that I owned a ton of shoes - a ton of inexpensive, very specific might match a few outfits shoes. In reality I tend to have a small rotation of shoes I wear over and over again so while I don't mind a few fun shoes I want to be able to focus on buying good quality in the shoes I wear the most. Right before the move we vacationed on 30A and spent one day at the outlets down in Destin; I wasn't planning on buying these but left with two pairs of crocs which are actually pretty stylish and don't really look like crocs. Ordinarily I'd never buy these but they are great for when you want to be stylish and will be doing a lot of walking. I've also ruined so many shoes over the years in the rain so I like these as my ra…

Hello Kitty Cafe

Last Saturday the Hello Kitty Café rolled through Memphis - and as a life long Sanrio lover it was my duty to attend and report back.

First off, let me pause and give shout-out to my husband for coming with me because I fully recognize this was a bit of a silly weekend activity - it's 45 min from our house so not something that was super convenient to do. Like Fuller House, henna tattoo chokers and mule shoes I appreciate that the folks at Sanrio are taking advantage of my generation's love of things from our middle school days. Back in my middle school days I remember carrying a Sanrio tin case as my purse with little Sanrio goodies around school - every girl in the 6th grade did the same; and even though it eventually lot its coolness I never really lost my love of Hello Kitty and all her friends with their adorable cuteness. So, when I saw this on Facebook I knew I had to check it out. The truck was open until 10am until 8pm or all items were sold out. Nothing is made wit…

Summer Beauty

I feel like Memorial Day is really the kickoff to summer but if you want to be technical yesterday was the first day of summer and it got me thinking about how I change up my beauty routine for summer. I know that it's recommended to change up beauty routines seasonally but I find that I can get away with the same routine for fall, spring and winter  - but summer is a different story and I find myself with different needs during the hot and humid Memphis summer months. Here's some of my summer beauty favorites.
Ogx Quenching Sea Mineral Moisturizing Lotion $7.99 I love this lotion because it's not to thick but not watery thin and it does a good job of keeping skin soft and moisturized without being greasy - plus the nice light sea scent is great for this time of year.
Christophe Robin Cleansing Purifying Scrub with Sea Salt $19 This shampoo scrub is great once a week for gently deep cleansing and get hair squeaky clean - I find it really preps hair to accept the moisture o…

Wardrobe Wednesday - Currently Craving

Although my clothing is mostly unpacked and hanging in the closet I still have all my shoes and accessories in boxes and although I purchased a few items in May as part of my Wardrobe Makeover blogging about them is going to have to wait another week. Today though instead of talking about what I have bought I thought I'd share a few items that I'd like to buy.
Society Plus Whimsy Bow Skirt $52.79 I love this skirt so much, which also comes in blush BTW, and I pretty much want to copy the entire look here. This skirt is named after the Whimsy and Wonder blog and the bow and length really matches my style. I feel like I already have a blush skirt so I should get the purple but I also feel like purple is better in fall and winter so I should wait to purchase. Sam Edelman Yumi Heeled Sandal $120 Mules are really in style right now and trend reports indicate this will carry into the fall. I had a nude pump on my wardrobe wish list for the year and I've yet to find one so I tho…

Hello Fresh Review

One problem with our last house was that the kitchen was a little small, but with our new kitchen we really have no excuse to not cook at home. To start us off on the right foot I started a Hello Fresh subscription.

Subscribers get to select from 8 meals on the weekly menu and can get two or four portions of each meal and 3, 4 or 5 meals per box. We get 4 meals and the cost of the box is $10 / portion / meal - so $80. Each menu also features one premium meal  for an extra $5 / portion.
For our first box I'm sharing step by step with two meals here because I don't think just showing one gives a fair overview of the box. Each box comes with the meat individually packaged, the ingredients per meal all in one brown bag and a recipe card that shows pictures, lists out materials needed and provides step by step instructions. It seems like all the meals involve six steps.

The first meal we made was a fish dish.

The first step was to roast the potatoes with oil in the oven.
