Date Box July 2017

It's day four of my trip and tonight will be my last night of sleeping (or trying to sleep) in a big ,empty hotel bed so I guess you could say I'm missing my husband a little bit. Last weekend we had a really fun date night with our monthly Date Box.

Date Box is a subscription service that sends the tools for a monthly date night in to your home for $39.95 a month. We have received dates for things such as painting, a spa night and escape room; This month's date provided us a fun night of cocktails and conversation. Each box comes with an activity, a snack , conversation starters and a spotify playlist. Most of the dates are things that could be repeated and this date is definitely something we'll do again.

This month's box came with recipes for several cocktails and mocktails, a cocktail shaker, jigger and stirrer to make out cocktails, coasters with conversation starters and the card game Rook.

Although it wasn't one of the recipes included we made some fun watermelon cocktails. The playlist had some great 50s love songs and the conversation starters provoked some really great conversation - some things we already knew about each other but some we didn't as well. Between making cocktails, playing cards and conversation I'd say we spent about two hours on our date.

This month's date didn't include a snack but since the date was cocktails I guess they figured a snack was not needed. Lately date boxes have also included a code for $30 off a Hello Fresh box but you can use my referral link and get $40 off a box to have everything you need for a night in.. We really enjoy our Hello Fresh meals and find the two boxes go really well together- check out my review for more info.

If you'd like to try a Date Night of your own use my referral link for $10 off your first box.

**This post contains referral links which will provide a discount off your first box, I receive a small credit for each referral. Both subscription boxes mentioned is this post are boxes I subscribe to and pay for with my own money. This is not a sponsored post**

Sweater Weather

Although I could do without the snow and single digit temps I do love winter because a lot of my favorite clothes are winter clothes. There's something about a cozy sweater that makes me feel good so of course I'm loving the current trend of statement sleeve sweaters.

With trends I really have to be careful to control myself, especially with these because it's a style I REALLY like. Without the little voice in my head reminding me that I do not need a closet of practically identical pieces I would own several of the tiered sleeve sweaters, thank goodness for that voice! For the tiered sleeve look I went with black because it's versatile and since this is such a trendy piece and there's no guarantee this will be in style come next winter I wanted something I would get a lot of wear out of this season. Likewise when buying a bell sleeve cardigan I wanted something I could wear throughout winter and possibly into spring - this sweater with jeans and a comfy tee unde…

2018 Wardrobe Goals

New Year, New Wardrobe . . .just kidding! If you offered to buy me a new wardrobe this time last year I would have been all over it but this year I would politely decline because there's too many items I wouldn't want to part with. I know I've made several posts here about my "closet project" and I'm sorry if I sound dramatic about it but y'all I am just so proud of myself.
Sketch of my favorite outfit of 2017 Full confession here: I am a shopaholic - I literally get an endorphin rush when I buy something I like and can spin into a depression episode if I really want something and can't buy it. Over the years I have realized how not only unhealthy this behavior is but how my frequent shopping was holding me back from other areas in my life and last year I decided to stop the cycle. It was hard, there were times when I was moody for days over not buying something or I obsessively looked at something I wanted online every single day counting down unti…

Gratitude Challenge

So this month I was all set to do the whole gratitude challenge thing  but as I started to think of what things I might post about I started to think maybe this isn't the best idea. Is it possible to do a gratitude challenge and come up with 30 unique expressions of gratitude without humble bragging? My day to day life is pretty boring and we don't have cute kids that provide a constant supply of little daily antidotes to be grateful about and I know that this isn't about picking up 30 material possessions  in my life and posting about them. But even when I look past the "stuff" in my life and more behind emotional and non tangible things it still just doesn't feel right - does the friend with the sick kid really need my post about how #blessed I am with good health popping up in her feed? I think not.
Maybe I'm being Debbie downer on what's supposed to be a lighthearted and fun social media engagement but I just can't get my heart into it becau…

Thanksgiving Essentials

Next week is Thanksgiving and I am soooo excited! Thanksgiving is basically all of my favorite things in one day - chilling in pjs watching the parade, delicious food, family time, and shopping! For the past few years we have gone our for Thanksgiving because the condo was not wheelchair friendly for my grandmother and my dad moved out of town but this year we're going back to having Thanksgiving at home and while I'm sad we won't have my grandma this year I am excited to be cooking the Thanksgiving meal again. In my humble opinion Thanksgiving is no time for healthy eating and since everyone has their own favorites I say bring on the carbs - this is what my menu this year will be: 1. Champagne Turkey 2. Stuffing 3. Green Bean Casserole 4. Sweet Potato Casserole 5. Mashed Potatoes 6. Peas 7. Corn Soufflé 8. Broccoli 9. Pillsbury Crescent Rolls 10. Cranberry sauce (from the can of course, I hate it but my family tells me this is the only way to have it) 11. Pie 12. Ma…

Shelby Jewel

I really wanted to have this post up yesterday but if you've been following my instagram stories at all you will have seen that I remembered this weekend that I still needed to refinish my dining room table if I had any hopes of using it for Thanksgiving (and yes, I am on track to finish it tonight, Woohoo!) So here I am a day late but not a dollar short with a post on some fun fashion finds. Last week I attended the preview party for a new online boutique started by Memphis Blogger Shelby Jewel. Shelby has beautiful taste so I knew I was interested in checking out her boutique. Nothing says welcome like a glass of Champagne! Racks of beautiful tops Swoon worthy Jackets Pretty Tassel Earrings So, I'll admit I was very nervous about this event, Shelby is very small and most boutique sizes are small as well - I am not. But, I really wanted to see the pretty things and thought hey, you never know. As I predicted clothing is available in S - L but I have found that with some bou…
