Closet Crisis September Update

Last December I posted about my closet crisis - yes I know my life is full of first world problems. Since there's only one quarter left in the year I think I owe a little update as far as how that is going. When I first started this project I put together this list of investment pieces, right now I have 5-ish. 1. One great little black dress $250 2. A white wrap shirt $200 3. A camel colored cashmere sweater $100 4. Tan pencil skirt $100 5. Denim skirt $100 6. Sequin skirt $50 7. Solid colored blouses (ideally four but I'd be happy with 3 if needed for my budget) $300 8. Gold wedges $100 9. Black pumps $100 10. Nude Pumps $100 11. Cowboy boots $300 12. Fur stole $300 1. LBD One great little black dress is harder than it sounds. First off, everyone has their version of a black dress. Also, even in the south a dress that's great for fall / winter isn't so great for spring / summer so I amended that a little bit to find a fall / winter and spring / summer dress. Honest…

Sephora Play September 2017

I recently decided to stop my Ipsy subscription so now Sephora Play is my only beauty sample box each month. I still enjoy getting beauty samples but I just don't need that many. Here's what inside this month:
DevaCurl Melt into Moisture Conditioning Treatment $36
This smells so nice and has a good thick formula, I like this better than the last conditioning treatment I received. I typically use a salt shampoo once a week and then use a conditioning treatment and I wouldn't mind switching to this one. Benefit Gimme Brow $24
I naturally have thick brows so I don't regularly use brow products but it is nice to make them look a little more polished. Stilla Stay All Day Eyeliner $22 This eyeliner goes on super thin and has good staying power. I like marker style liner but I prefer a bit thicker of a tip, I had a hard time keeping such a thin line steady. Laura Mercier Velour Lovers Lip Colour $28 I really like the color -happy, it's a pinkish red and I really like the …

Beg and Borrow Apparel

Last spring I featured Beg + Borrow in my Memphis Fashion Week coverage and I knew I wanted to get something as soon as I saw it.  Beg + Borrow is a Memphis Fashion brand featuring custom shirts and shirt dresses for women. Who doesn't love a good shirt dress? They're comfortable, versatile and give an effortless chic style. Back in April I was just starting to focus on paring down my closet and knew that this would make a great piece to own - plus each dress is custom, how fun is that? Beg + Borrow creator Monte Stewart is really great to work with and the process was much easier than I expected it to be. My biggest motivator in getting a Beg + Borrow dress is accommodating my large chest - I have very few off the rack button up items because typically when they fit everywhere else they are subject to buttons popping open on the chest - and length, because it's hard being a 5'10 girl in a 5'6 world y'all. After a few emails back and forth I met with Monte at…

Lancer The Method Review

As a teen I never broke out but in college and my adult life it was a completely different story. Then when I turned 33 it seemed like that was going to be the magic age where the adult acne stopped, and for the most part it has but now I get some pesky flair ups during my period - I hate this because well duh, don't we all hate acne? But also I feel like I might as well be wearing a giant neo sign that says HEY, I"M ON MY PERIORD Y'ALL! Not that having a period is weird or anything to be ashamed of but it feels so personal and the rest of the world knowing exactly what is going on with my body just bothers me. Point being, I'm always on the look out for ways to deal with this little monthly annoyances. Lucky for me right as my last cycle was ending and I had one stubborn spot in particular to deal with The Method arrived. This skin care routine is a three step process meant to be used together. and for the past few weeks I have been following the daily routine.

Fall Fashion 2017

Ok, so I know once labor day passes we get all excited and consider it fall but officially it starts this Friday. Right now here in the south mother nature still hasn't made up her mind - we've had beautiful days in the 70s and chilly nights but we still get some days in the 90s too. It makes fall fashion a wee bit difficult so I find myself waiting until Thanksgiving weekend before I even think about busting out a sweater. Luckily this year a lot of the trends can work for this it's fall but it doesn't really feel like it weather. I think it is important for any fashionista to think about what trends he or she would like to incorporate into their style for the current season. Fashion is after all supposed to be a form of expression so it never makes sense to me to wear something just because it's "in". For example camo is big this year, but it's not my style and not something you'll ever see me in. However, there's a lot of trends this year…

The Perfect Plus Size Jeans

The perfect pair of jeans can be such a challenge to find and it means something different to everyone. I was kind of a prissy kid and didn't wear jeans until I was 11.In high school and college I wore jeans on occasion and once I entered the professional world I rarely wore jeans, even on casual Fridays. For years the only jeans I even owned were Talbots Trouser Jeans - which I still strongly recommend if you work in a more formal environment that only allows jeans on Fridays. But where I am in my life currently jeans really fit my lifestyle and I wear them to work several times a week. When I started my current job last year I knew that I'd need to start wearing jeans more and I purchased two high end pairs off the Nordstrom site. Unless you're just really anti pants I think everyone needs a pair of dark wash, boot cut jeans as they are universally flattering and can be dressed up and down - from there the possibilities are endless! I also own a faded wash pair and I t…

Mandysue at Home - The Living Room

Happy almost weekend! I wish every week could be a four day work week but hey I’ll take them when I can get them. Over the Labor Day weekend Shaun and I hosted a party at our house – not only was this exciting because it was the first time having a bunch of friends over to our new home but it was our first time hosting a party together. Paying the mortgage every month certainly makes it feel like it’s our house but there’s two things that really make a house a home- filling it with love and making it your own with decorating. We certainly felt loved by all our family and friends and we’re getting there on the decorating so now that that a few rooms are feeling pretty finished I figured it’s time to share some peaks inside.
When we first bought the house I had a very clear vision for our living room, it’s the very center of our house and you can see if not only right when you walk in but from most other rooms in the house. We had every intention of painting the walls and filling this…

Southern Muse

In August I got to attend a fun blogger event at a boutique in Collierville, TN - Southern Muse. Southern Muse is such a fun store and the owner Kim and her staff are so very nice! The store was fully stocked with fall fashions for the event - check out this fabulously styled outfit:

I wound up selecting a soft kimono with a tassel trim. I know, just one thing, what? Well to be honest I haven't finished picking my fall fashion picks yet - at this event I had yet to receive my September Issue of Vogue or my Trunk Club box , now that I have both and the later turned out to be a bust I'm putting together my wish list and will have to go back. There was a fun red tunic with bell sleeves I was thisclose to buying.

I've already worn it twice it's such a fun piece - but my bad on not hanging it back up and realizing it was wrinkly before taking this photo. In addition to great fashion Southern Muse also has lots of beautiful accessories, gift items, cosmetics and bath item…
