Mandysue vs Amanda

Latley I've been getting a little weary with social media, I think there's a lot of pressure to be real and authentic but also really great. Social media sometimes can be a highlight reel of our lives or even an alternative or wishful version of ourselves. For example, nobody in real life calls me Mandysue - it's a cutesy southernized version of my first and middle name - Amanda Susan. On Facebook I typically don't talk about work but the rest of my life I'm pretty open about - Instagram however I stick to very surface level stuff.

Here's some examples of how the Instagram version of myself is a little different than the in real life version :

Mandysue - wears heels with every outfit
Amanda - wears flats most days because she's not the type to grin and bear achy feet

Mandysue - always wears makeup
Amanda - has been know to occasionally show up at work with no makeup and damp hair pulled up

Mandysue - has a clean, clutter free living room
Amanda - pulled out all her Halloween decorations but slept in Saturday instead of putting them up

Mandysue - never talks about politics
Amanda - will get into an argument with you on Facebook over politics

Mandysue - never talks about a day job, pretty clothes magically appear in her closet
Amanda - in general enjoys her job in finance but sometimes it's the only place she wears the clothes she's very carefully selected to stay within a certain spend each month

Mandysue - wear sunglasses in most of her pics because they're stylish
Amanda - has terrible eyesight and is very sensitive to light. Also, hates the way her under eyes have shadows and dark circles.

So does this mean I'm going to start posting "I woke up like this" pics? Oh hell no! But, just remember the next time you see a post from the blogger who seems to have it all (yeah, I know that's not me anyway) or the high school classmate whose life seems 10 times more fabulous that there's often more than meets the eye.

Sensible Portions

I'm Sometimes you have to recognize your strengths and when it's time to outsource . For me a healthy lifestyle is not a strength. I love the idea of eating small healthy meals and working out everyday but then I get hangry and eat anything in sight. Or I have a busy weekend and don't have time to meal prep, and then I'm screwed for the week and one bad week turns into a bad month, and a bad year and a decade of gaining weight. So, when a sorority sister posted a meal plan she had found success with I was very interested. Shaun and I tried a similar program last year but it was very expensive ($170 for one person for 5 days) That's a great investment if you need to lose 10 or 20 lbs but when you have a lot to lose you need a long term plan that is viable from a time, nutrition and financial aspect.
Long term it's still pricey but I was very impressed with the value and results of sensible portions and decided to give it a try. Like most meal plans the plan is …

20 Rules for Modern Feminine Style

One of the things I love about the digital age is the ability to connect with others! I recently got a great idea from a youtuber I follow to make a list of 20 "rules" that define my lifestyle and I really loved this idea and thought not only would this be a good exercise for myself but a good topic to share with y'all. So, obviously you do you and wear whatever you want but these are my guidelines for my modern feminine without breaking the bank aesthetic.
1. Focus on pieces with wear ability beyond one season, don't get sucked into too many trends. For example, gingham will always be wearable for summer, plaid for fall, sweaters for winter and floral for spring - but get pieces with classic cuts so you can wear them year after year. For example, a gingham shirt dress is classic, a gingham top with bell sleeves will look dated the second that shape is out. 2. Don't be afraid to spend a little more for quality timeless pieces - a cashmere sweater, a great blac…

Lauren James Warehouse Sale Haul

Hello Friends! I know many of y'all kept up with my Lauren James warehouse sale journey over the weekend and if you're anything like me you like following along even if you couldn't make it yourself. When Lauren James announced the warehouse sale I was super excited but not sure I could make it work - it was short notice, a five hour drive and I'd already spent my June spending money. Luckily I have a good hubby who recognizes that sometimes you just need something fun in your life and was ok not only making the trip but with me borrowing from ourselves against my July spending money. Since this is the last warehouse sale Lauren James plans on holding I really didn't want the opportunity to slip by.
Warehouse sales can serve many purposes for a business - as a way to move excess inventory, create buzz and excitement for the brand, reward the most loyal brand fans by giving them access to great deal (which also puts more product into the hands of those most excite…

Wedding Guest PSA

Over the weekend my husband and I packed up all of the wedding gifts we received and moved them into storage in preparation of our anticipated move later this year and it was a wonderful reminder of all the love and support we received during our wedding. Because I personally enjoyed hearing from recent brides in wedding chats prior to our wedding I am still in a wedding chat and from time to time will comment when something similar to something we experienced pops up in my newsfeed. One thing that I see a common frustration with is guest lists and as a recent bride I  have a few thoughts on this. Since it's almost time for the 2017 wedding season to begin which means invites for spring weddings have already gone out I figure now is a good time for a little PSA when it comes to wedding invites. Our wedding invite Not only from my own wedding but from my numerous conversations with fellow brides I can say with certainty that the guest list is one of the biggest considerations a c…

Lane Bryant Best Fitting Denim

Ask 100 women what is the most versatile items in their closet and I bet 98% will say a pair of jeans. As I mentioned in my 2019 wardrobe goals getting another pair of jeans is on my closet to do this year since right now I only have one pair. And wouldn't you know it but the folks at Lane Bryant must have read my mind since they're offering the Best Fitting Denim event this upcoming weekend and they have asked me to be their special guest so not only I could find my own perfect fitting jeans but help y'all do the same. Lane Bryant offers a good variety of jeans not only in shape but in color, wash and fun details. Before showing the perfect pair for me here's a look at just a few of the options. It was really nice to be able to play around with the wash, length and fit so see what I liked about each.

Although I LOVE the fun ruffle and ribbon embellishments I felt like a traditional pair of jeans matches my lifestyle. I tried on the straight leg and boot cut three ti…
