Festive AF Holiday Style

WooHoo!!!! It's December and I couldn't be more excited. Every year I set a goal to do 25 Christmas festive things from Dec 1st to 25th and every year I wind up missing a few days but this year I feel more prepared than ever so I've decided to increased the challenge and not only do 25 festive things this month but to wear 25 festive outfits to go with those activities.

This month we'll be doing Christmas activities from holiday concerts to light displays to making our own gingerbread house and of course going to Church on Christmas Eve. Some outfits might have just a touch of festiveness while on others I plan on going all out but be prepared for lots of sparkle, plaid, tulle, fur and bling for the next 25 days on my Instagram feed. I'll also post each outfit here with links to the items or similar styles if it's something from a previous collection, I mean let's not get crazy, y'all don't think I'm going out and buying 25 new outfits do you? Also, I plan on taking a lot of pieces and showing them in both dressy and casual holiday style so I hope you'll find lots of inspiration for your own holiday fun.

Look 1 - Sequins and Fur
Friday night we started the weekend and holiday season off at The Memphis Symphony Holiday concert. You don't have to get this dressed up for the symphony but I always think it's nice.

The Cha Cha Tassel Earring (Charming Charlie) - get $10 off a Charming Charlie here
Plaid Chiffon Green Blouse - Plus and Straight Size - it's on sale for under $10!
Mink Stole - Buy vintage! I recommend Sugar Plum Consignments for great pieces
Sequin Skirt Plus and Straight Size

Look 2 - Tiger Blue Christmas
Saturday was the AAC Championship game Memphis vs UCF - it was a great game for football fans period but a sad end for Tiger fans as Memphis lost in the 2nd overtime. I've had my eye on this sweater tee for the past year and was super excited to snap it up during Black Friday. I think this is so great because right now it's just to warm to wear an actual sweater. If you're not cool enough to be a Tiger fan it is available for most larger southern universities; oh and it's on sale for under $20.

Collegiate Sweater Tee (Lauren James) - get $10 off here
Vera Quilted Velvet Bag (Charming Charlie) -get $10 off a Charming Charlie purchase here
Rockstar Jeans - Plus and Straight Size

 Look 3: Christmas Jammies
Oh course the holidays wouldn't be the same without a great pair of Christmas jammies. I got my set from my Monobox subscription but since they are not the fastest shippers I've linked a similar pair below so you could get yours in time. If you really want them monogramed I find it pretty easy to find a local monogramer.

Look 4: Casual Party Style
I've blogged a lot here about how much I enjoy our membership at The Dixon Gallery and Garden and over the weekend we had fun attending the annual member holiday party. It's always fun to see entrance decorated for the holidays and catch up with friends. This year I decided to keep my outfit casual and am wearing items featured in the outfits above - the top I wore to the symphony didn't really get to have the fun details shown with the sequin skirt and mink stole so I really wanted one outfit where it could stand out on it's own.

Plaid Chiffon Green Blouse - Plus and Straight Size - it's on sale for under $10!
Vera Quilted Velvet Bag (Charming Charlie) -get $10 off a Charming Charlie purchase here
Rockstar Jeans - Plus and Straight Size

Look 5: Velvet Skirt and Tee
So, this was actually my Thanksgiving outfit but I think this tee is something you could wear any day and I LOVE this velvet skirt so I plan on wearing it a lot this winter. Before the weather turned cool I repeated this outfit to the office

Necklace and Tee - Prep Obsessed
Belt: similar

Look 6: Holiday Shopping Cuteness
Last week I had the crazy idea to five 5 hours away and then back in one day for the Lauren James warehouse sale - so of course I had to wear Lauren James! I'm in love the the Christmas sweater tees and have four of them so this is only the 2nd on you'll see here. Although all the LJ tees in my size were gone by the time we got there I loaded up on tees in the Lake Dad brand where are the same super soft material, Shaun got a ton of tees and we got stuff for the whole family for gift giving so the trip was still a win!

Hat and Christmas Sweater Tee Lauren James - - get $10 off here
Rockstar Jeans - Plus and Straight Size
Black Boots Similar

Look 7: Faux Fur and Flannel

Over the weekend we then went on another road trip to Jackson, MS so I could attend the Mississippi Planner Addicts meet up, which was a lot of fun! Before heading home we stopped by the city of Canton for their light display and dinner - it was super pretty and I had some amazing Shrimp and Grits so all and all a really great stop. During the day it was quite cold enough for a coat so I decided to pair a faux fur vest with my flannel top - I get so many compliments on this top both in this print and others whenever I wear them.

Flannel Top - Old Navy
Faux Fur Vest Similar it's under $20 which is less than what I paid for mine
Rockstar Jeans - Plus and Straight Size
Duck Boots similar

There's still lots of festiveness to come! Check back here all month and follow me on Instagram to see more festive holiday style.

Sensible Portions

I'm Sometimes you have to recognize your strengths and when it's time to outsource . For me a healthy lifestyle is not a strength. I love the idea of eating small healthy meals and working out everyday but then I get hangry and eat anything in sight. Or I have a busy weekend and don't have time to meal prep, and then I'm screwed for the week and one bad week turns into a bad month, and a bad year and a decade of gaining weight. So, when a sorority sister posted a meal plan she had found success with I was very interested. Shaun and I tried a similar program last year but it was very expensive ($170 for one person for 5 days) That's a great investment if you need to lose 10 or 20 lbs but when you have a lot to lose you need a long term plan that is viable from a time, nutrition and financial aspect.
Long term it's still pricey but I was very impressed with the value and results of sensible portions and decided to give it a try. Like most meal plans the plan is …

Plum Paper Designs - Fitness Insert

I know I say this every year but this year I also want to make wellness / fitness a priority. It's hard for me to get in the mindset of making it important because quite frankly it's not something my doctor gets onto me about. But during 2015 I've been making a switch to a more natural lifestyle and that has put fitness back at my top of mind. So, for $4.50 I got the fitness section added onto my Plum Paper Designs Planner
Here's what's inside:

A summary sheet at the front:

A monthly layout for 12 months
Weight Loss Tracker at the Back

I LOVE the monthly layout! First off, having a hydration tracker for each day is going to be so nice. I also love the idea of holding myself accountable to writing down an activity (or excuse) each day. Most of all I love the recognition that each month will have different goals and includes some note sections ; one thing I hear a lot form people who successfully got fit was that they had some kind of tracking and were able to go back…

Vi Peel

2018 Update: Hello Internet! Welcome to my most popular blog post - I presume you're here because you're considering getting a facial peel. Please keep in mind this is an old post and my photo quality is not great. Please feel free to read and enjoy but I do want to let you know that as the years have passed I have taken a more proactive approach with my skin care and I do not get frequent peels. If you'd like to see my modern approach to skincare check out some of my other beauty posts and I'd love for you to connect with me on Instagram to keep up with my latest and greatest recommendations.

Hello! So I got my first Vi Peel which I was super excited about. Since the Botox post was popular I figure y'all would like this too. Besides, it's well established I'm beyond any sense of privacy or shame here.
I got my first peel years ago - a mild Glycolic peel added onto my fac…

What’s in the bag : Toiletry Essentials to Pack for Your Next Trip

I’ve  been traveling so much lately so I’ve pretty much got packing down to a science. Planning for a trip can be stressful so I’m here to make it a little easier for you and talk about the necessities, today were specifically talking about what’s in the toiletry bag. As a special treat I have teamed up with Smile Brilliant for a giveaway at the end of this post!!! When thinking about necessities I first think about the things I don’t need - hotels always have shampoo, conditioner and a hairdryer so I never bring my own to save space.  I then think about what items I use at home that I can go without for the week vs. what I use everyday. I also try to think about  products that are good for multipurpose; facial oil is a great example as I use it for a makeup remover at night , a moisturizer in the morning and I also use a small amount on the ends of my hair. Through this I’ve been able to narrow it down to only ten items.
1. Hairbrush

2. Deodorant

3. Toothbrush

4. Toothpaste

5. Facia…

Top Ten Trends for Fall and What to Buy Now

I received several questions about the Nordstrom sale and this year I really felt like I would bite the bullet and make a post with recommendations and while I see myself always browsing the sale to see what's up and I'm not closed to doing a round up post in the future after reviewing this year's sale I just can't find the patience to put an entire post together. I always want this blog to be a place where I am authentic and real and not just a place to spew out what's popular but rather what trends speak to me. And I hate to disappoint people , I'm very flattered that there have been people to reach out and ask about my recommendations but I don't want to recommend things just for the sake of recommending things. I prefer to shop in season and with the weather in Memphis I just won't be wearing fall items until late October. Plus, a lot of the items I saw in the sale I liked are similar to items I already own and I don't need to be buying duplic…
