Get in the Spirit with Lauren James

It wasn't too long ago when I never wore t-shirts except to sleep - now I practically live in them on the weekends and I've been known to wear them to worn with a sweater (don't side eye, my office is super casual). Maybe the older I get the more comfort is important to me, or maybe it's just because I never loved a t-shirt before . . .but that all changed when I discovered Lauren James. Lauren James is a Arkansas based company offering preppy, pretty women's attire. The brand started with t-shirts and moved to outwear, dresses, accessories and beachwear - and while all of their stuff is awesome my heart belongs to their t-shirts which they call sweet tees. Everyone thinks I'm crazy when I talk about how great their tees are - until they wear one - the are SO SOFT! Recently LJ expanded their collegiate collection - there's 62 schools currently or soon to be offered so chances are whoever you're a fan of they have it. As a Memphis fan, I love it! How c…

Morning, Noon and Night Skincare with Dr Brandt

Sometimes the other side of 30 isn't so great y'all - especially when it comes to skin. I have to worry about blemish flare ups and anti aging and dry skin at the same time. So, you can imagine how excited I was to receive a box full of goodies from Dr Brandt. Typically, I start off my day using the Needles No More 3-D Filler Mask , this one is one I purchased myself earlier this year. The name of this one can be a little confusing because to me when I think mask I think something you wear for 15 to 30 minutes and then wash off but this is a little different - you can wear it all night but it seems like more people wear it during the day. The "mask" basically fills in the little lines on your face - hence why there's not more need for needles. I typically put this on after my moisturizer in the place of a primer - my makeup goes on very smooth and it doesn't clog my pores. A little goes a long way too, I still have plenty of product left in my jar after usi…

What's on the Agenda - Art Party

Last weekend was all about keeping it casual but this weekend will involve a little dressing up. I've been a Young at Art member at The Dixon for over 10 years now and I have always enjoyed the membership. For $150 you get for two people - year long garden and gallery admission, tickets to the annual Fall and Spring events (Fall is Art on Tap and Spring is typically a themed cocktail party), Culture and Cocktail events throughout the year (these are casual after work opportunities to stop by grab a drink and see the exhibit) and discounts on programing through-out the year. This weekend will be the spring cocktail party and this year's theme is Vintage Travel. As soon as I got the invite I knew I had most of what I needed in my closet already and would just need to buy a few accessories to complete the outfit. This is the best part of keeping a lot of classic pieces in your closet - they are timeless and work for a variety of events.   I decided this event would be the perf…

What's on the Agenda - Soup Sunday

I'm always trying to think of new ideas for the blog - sometimes it feels like throwing darts and seeing if one hits but it's always fun to be creative and come up with new things. On my insta stories recently I posed the idea of talking about events before I attend them and what to wear and most people felt like that sounded fun so I thought we'd give it a try. This weekend is the annual Soup Sunday event in Memphis. This is honestly one of my favorite fundraisers of the year - while a lot of fundraisers can be all about getting dressed up and being a whos who of Memphis Soup Sunday is accessible and fun for everyone. Adult tickets are $20 and family packs which include 2 adults and 2  kids are $50 and funds benefit Youth Villages. The event takes place in the FedEx Forum and over 40 restaurants will have tables set up in the Plaza level providing tasting our soups, breads and desserts. It's a lot of standing in line or walking around so to me this is not an event …

Back to Beige

Earlier this year in my 2018 wardrobe goals post I talked about some of the items that I just couldn't find or missed out on in 2017 - I guess I was just being very fashion forward because it seems all my missed pieces became readily available this month.

I finally decided to just do it and buy the cashmere cardigan. I originally purchased online for $147 but then I happened to catch it on sale for under $100 - luckily the folks at Neiman were easy to work with in getting the price difference refunded. I thought the color would be a light camel color but in real life it's a blushy-beige, I can't be mad at that though. I recommend just bookmarking this item if you want to try to catch it on sale yourself - I've linked the plus size sweater and the straight size which does have a lower price point. It's very lightweight and I'm pleased with the quality.  I could see myself getting this cardigan in multiple colors.
I was also really excited to find a kh…

Target Spring 2018 Try On

Spring is here! Well, maybe . . . here in Memphis we're back to think funky weather where it's in the 60s one day and freezing the next. But, spring fashion is hitting stores so close enough. While I usually start buying and wearing spring fashions for the year in March I decided this year with my theme of being more strategic with my wardrobe to go ahead and start trying things on so I can start thinking about what to ultimately buy.  Target has been killing it lately with fashion and they have several lines I love so knowing that I have a pretty healthy amount of skirts and I have jeans I love that I'd really want to be adding to my top collection I decided to make target my first try on stop. Unfortunately I discovered that the plus sizes of the Who What Wear brand are no longer carried in stores, at least not in my area anyway (I went to five Targets looking for it). Target does however have a line that is exclusive to plus sizes - Ava + Viv, and A New Day which come…

Sephora Play January 2018

This year I've cut back on subscription boxes a lot - right now it's just Mommy Lhey Little Bits (planner supplies) and Sephora Play (beauty). Don't get me wrong, I love getting subscription boxes but if I'm being perfectly honest I also love picking my own things to buy and I'm trying to be even smarter with my spending this year. That said, I like Sephora Play because for $10 a month it keeps me connected with the latest beauty products and lets me try them without spending a fortune. This month I was super excited by the products inside this months box.

Glam Glow Cleanser $32
I really like the gla glow masks so I was really excited to try this cleanser and it did not disappoint. Most cleansers cannot get off my eye makeup and I have to use a remover but this one cleaned my entire face. Its not drying and because it has a similar consistency although lighter than the mask I feel like it does a great job of giving a deep clear rather than just clean makeup from …

Society Plus Tutu Skirts

"Well, don't you look all princessey" my hubby said to me as he took photos of this look . . . which makes sense considering that's what it says on the label. . . .

See, I wasn't kidding. All Society+ items actually come with a fun affirmation label, which is just a fun brand touch but it's certainty true for this outfit.   I remember when tulle skirts first became popular a few years ago and I thought oh no way I could wear that, I would look huge and ridiculous; but then I tried one on and you know what - I felt FABULOUS! I actually think while tulle skirts look fabulous on anyone they are perfect for plus size women because they're not overwhelming. Plus hello, they're fun and pretty.

I've been wearing tulle for a couple of years now but it's only been recently that I've worn a Society+ Tutu Skirt and let me just say - what a difference! Each tutu skirt has 5 layers of tulle which gives a nice level of poof. The waist band is super co…
