Target Spring 2018 Try On

Spring is here! Well, maybe . . . here in Memphis we're back to think funky weather where it's in the 60s one day and freezing the next. But, spring fashion is hitting stores so close enough. While I usually start buying and wearing spring fashions for the year in March I decided this year with my theme of being more strategic with my wardrobe to go ahead and start trying things on so I can start thinking about what to ultimately buy.  Target has been killing it lately with fashion and they have several lines I love so knowing that I have a pretty healthy amount of skirts and I have jeans I love that I'd really want to be adding to my top collection I decided to make target my first try on stop.
Unfortunately I discovered that the plus sizes of the Who What Wear brand are no longer carried in stores, at least not in my area anyway (I went to five Targets looking for it). Target does however have a line that is exclusive to plus sizes - Ava + Viv, and A New Day which comes in both straight and plus sizes. The Xhilariation line also features some in store plus choices.
But first, I had to hit up the clearance rack, since we still have cool weather I can still get wear out of sweaters and winter fashions. From time to time if you use the cartwheel app you can get an extra 20% off your clearance purchase - this pink sweater was $9.98 and pearly clutch $5.68 (the skirt is also from Target but I bought it back at full price, you might still be able to find it in select sizes now on clearance) with my discount that made the two items $12.52 but wait - from time to time Target also has deals where if you buy so many of an item you get a giftcard - since these are usually on things we buy anyway like shampoo or health items  I try to take advantage when this is offered and just hold onto the giftcard to use towards something fun in the future so on my last visit I happened to have a $10 gift card chilling in my wallet. Even my hubby can't object to a sweater and  clutch for $2.52.
But onto the Spring items . . . .
I was really disappointed in this A New Day top - the sleeves were too short and it's see though. Yes, I could wear it with a tank underneath but it didn't impress me at all to make it worth the effort.

This sheer top from A New Day is in fact meant to be worn with a tank but I had the same problem with the sleeves so I felt as pretty as the color was it was best to pass.

This is the last top I tried from A New Day and again the sleeves are too shirt, the bottons gap on my chest and the fit on the hips is not good. I could have sized up but I just didn't feel like this top was great enough to warrant making it work. The moral of the story here is that this season's selections of A New Day Tops are not for me.

I love wrap tops so I was super excited to find this blue and white stripe one from Ava + Viv. At this point I was so excited to find something that worked I forgot to show off the sleeve detail but they are ruched and have some volume to them. I decided to wear this with a nude tank to add a little modesty.

Going back to A new Day, I seem to have much better luck with their skirts. I really love this one with the tie waist - it's a very silky soft material but there was also a skirt in a lighter color with a more structured material I decided to get instead. This purchase really excited me because a khaki skirt was on my wish list last year and I was unable to find one. I purchased my regular size but I do find the skirts to run a little large in this brand _ tried on and could have gotten a size down but I decided to allow room for shrinkage. I find the velvet skirt runs a little oversized too.

I personally really like ruffles so I was very drawn to this ruffle sleeve tee. I passed for now but it's on my short list of things to go back for in March.
Finally, I tried on ths romper since I loved the one I purchased last year so much, I'm honestly still torn on this. (it's not available online currently)
SInce the Who What Wear collection I's available in plus in store I'll have to be ordering online but here's some of my top picks, I'll do a later post on how it turns out:

Spring Forward with a Wooden Watch

Hello Friends! Have you been making it to work on time this week or did your body have a hard time with the adjustment? Personally I am not a morning person so I have an easier time with fall daylight savings than I do spring. Here in Memphis the trees are starting to bloom and spring is in the air, which means its time to reflect the season in my wardrobe. I've swapped out my purse from black to blush, added a few new floral tops and got a new watch to help keep me on time as I adjust to the time change. For my watch, I selected the Frankie Purpleheart & Plum watch from Jord. Not only are oversized watches so in right now but I love the use of the Purpleheart wood and plum face to give a twist on a classic style watch. As y'all know love all shades of pink and I think the coloring of this watch goes with it so beautifully and the blush tones of my outfit really make the distinctness of the Purpleheart wood stand out.
I've been very intrigued by the wooden watch tre…

Pretty in Pink Easter Dress

Hello and Happy First Day of Spring!!! I'm so lucky to live in an area where in general the weather feels like what you would expect for each season - it's hot in summer, cold and winter and while some years we don't get the perfect day on the first day of spring it is starting to warn up and some flowers have begun to bloom. As much as I'm a planner I have a terrible time shopping for clothes in advance - when it's cold I want to wear sweaters and when it's warm I want cotton dresses gosh darn it so typically Easter creeps up on me and the week of I find myself scrambling to find something to wear. Yes of course I could just pull something I love from my closet but Easter represents new life and new beginnings and I always like to treat myself to a new dress.   So, when you've having all the Easter feels what's a girl to do except go take some pictures - and even better if you're lucky enough to live near a Jeff Koons Smooth Egg with Bow sculpture…

Sweater Weather

Although I could do without the snow and single digit temps I do love winter because a lot of my favorite clothes are winter clothes. There's something about a cozy sweater that makes me feel good so of course I'm loving the current trend of statement sleeve sweaters.

With trends I really have to be careful to control myself, especially with these because it's a style I REALLY like. Without the little voice in my head reminding me that I do not need a closet of practically identical pieces I would own several of the tiered sleeve sweaters, thank goodness for that voice! For the tiered sleeve look I went with black because it's versatile and since this is such a trendy piece and there's no guarantee this will be in style come next winter I wanted something I would get a lot of wear out of this season. Likewise when buying a bell sleeve cardigan I wanted something I could wear throughout winter and possibly into spring - this sweater with jeans and a comfy tee unde…

Vi Peel

2018 Update: Hello Internet! Welcome to my most popular blog post - I presume you're here because you're considering getting a facial peel. Please keep in mind this is an old post and my photo quality is not great. Please feel free to read and enjoy but I do want to let you know that as the years have passed I have taken a more proactive approach with my skin care and I do not get frequent peels. If you'd like to see my modern approach to skincare check out some of my other beauty posts and I'd love for you to connect with me on Instagram to keep up with my latest and greatest recommendations.

Hello! So I got my first Vi Peel which I was super excited about. Since the Botox post was popular I figure y'all would like this too. Besides, it's well established I'm beyond any sense of privacy or shame here.
I got my first peel years ago - a mild Glycolic peel added onto my fac…

Hostess with the Mostess

One of my favorite things is to entertain. Since moving last summer we have hosted some kind of event at least once a month and while we keep talking about slowing down it doesn't look like we'll stop anytime soon. Party hosting can be a lot of fun but it can also be exhausting, especially if you aren't prepared, so I've pulled together my "best practices" so you can learn from my mistakes and make your next gathering a little less stressful. The first step of course is to determine what kind of gathering you'll be hosting - we've hosted everything from Thanksgiving dinner with all the fancy crystal and china to a casual come on over for burgers on the grill but I think my favorite event that we've hosted so far has been a baby shower for our sweet friends.

Once you know what kind of event you're hosting think about the guest list and how you'll invite everyone - for just a gathering of our friends we use facebook but if you want to be …
