Lately I've been turning Friday into finance Friday around here and while budgeting and spending appropriately is all super important I think it's important for y'all to know that being financially responsible isn't all excel , numbers and paperwork. So, I'm resurrecting a series I used to post here - $40 Dates!
The idea is pretty simple - every couple needs a date night (or afternoon) whether you're newly dating or married with five kids and a date night doesn't always have to mean getting dressed up and having an expensive dinner - in fact I think the best way to keep your dates fun and stress free is by making sure they're not a financial burden, because date night shouldn't be put on the back burner either. It's been a few years since I started this concept and when I told myself I need to do better about date night in my own marriage I seriously considered upping the spend to $50 but here's the deal - $40 is super easy and it's a nice round number but quite frankly it's also a little bit of a challenge and that's part of the fun - seeing what you can come up with; heck, you could even turn it into a challenge with your partner to see who can plan the most fun affordable date!
For our first in a long time $40 date Shaun and I headed to Downtown Memphis to visit the Old Dominick Distillery. Old Dominick has a long history in Memphis and has recently been resurrected by the latest generation of the founder's family. Of course, the tour would be no fun for you if I told you everything here but the story is very interesting.
During our visit we spent an hour touring the facility and learning about the processes; currently the distillery produces Vodka and a Hot Toddy whiskey. The distillery has lots of natural lighting and is very well organized making for a nice tour. After our tour we were guided through a tasting of each of the Old Dominick offerings. The Hot Toddy is much sweeter than your typical whiskey which Shaun actually prefers so he was really excited to give it a try. After our tasting we headed up to the rooftop deck which has great views of the city and is a really nice spot to enjoy a cocktail.
It's always nice to do something beyond just going to dinner so we were really glad to have a fun weekend activity that didn't involve just sitting across a table from each other. Trying new things is always a great bonding experience for any couple so I highly recommend grabbing your sweetheart and heading downtown.
Two Tours $24
Two Cocktails $14 plus $2 tip
***This is not a sponsored post, all opinions are my own. I recently attended the Blogger Xchange event at the distillery and was not able to participate in the tour at that time, Old Dominick was kind enough to invite me to return. We paid for Shaun's tour and our drinks with our own money***
