Seven Habits for Health and Beauty in 2019

They say it takes 21 days to build a habit and while we're past the 21 day mark on 2019 there's plenty of days left this year so I thought I would share my own habits that I've built this year. Like millions of Americans I am taking the new year as an opportunity to focus on my wellness so there are several additions to my health and beauty routine I have added this year. These were easy changes to implement and really just involved "stepping up" what I was already doing so to speak.
1. Drink Water Ok, so this one is actually a little hard. My goal is to drink one gallon of water a day and I’ve been trying to build up to that. I find when I focus on drinking water the first 60oz are no big deal - but beyond that I struggle so I’m trying to build up to that gallon - right now I’m drinking about 80 oz a day and I plan to hit the gallon mark by the end of February. I find flavoring my water helps a lot and I use crystal light lemonade packets. Not only does water …

Striped Tee Style

I love pieces I  can wear over and over again yet wear differently each time and a striped tee is on the top of my list of such a clothing item. Dare I say next to jeans it is the most versatile item in my closet.
One thing that I really love about a striped tee is that it’s perfectly fine on its own - pair with jeans and go. It’s timeless, chic and has just enough to not be boring. Of course, pairing with some accessories is always fun and takes the look from safe to adding in some personal style.
While great on its own like a fine wine a striped tee also makes a great paring and can easily be turned into a layering piece under a cardigan or even take a short sleeve dress into fall and winter.
But if you really want to have fun with a stripe tee than  print mixing is wear it’s at. I’m usually hesitant to mix prints but a striped tee is enough of a neutral base that it’s not too much competition. I’m personally a fan of keeping the stripe in a color that’s already in the print but…

10 Year Challenge

Earlier this week I shared an image encouraging people to think about their accomplishments over the past ten years rather than how their looks have changed and listed all the positive things that have happened in my own life. It's not that I mind sharing pics of what I looked like 10 years ago but just sharing a picture doesn't tell the whole story. I had a lot of people respond congratulating me on my accomplishments and while I appreciate that it made me realize my intention was never to brag or say oh, look how great my life has been because the past ten years have been years of struggle and success.
Here you see a girl who thinks she's the life of the party - she's 24 and has practically no responsibilities but I don't envy her or wish I could return to that lifestyle.
Meanwhile, you look at this 34 year old woman and you see she's changed the way she treats her hair, she has some lines around the eyes and roundness to her face that wasn't there befo…

Hello Kitty Tea

A few months ago I was scrolling on instagram and I saw some posts about a place called The Hello Kitty Grand Café. Now I had stopped by the Hello Kitty Café food truck when it rolled through Memphis (check out my post on that here) but this looked to be taking the experience to the next level. After digging into it I discovered that The Hello Kitty Grand Café was not far from my in-law’s home in Southern California and lucky for me we had trip already planned. The Hello Kitty Grand Café operates with several functions – the front section of the location operates just like the food truck with a menu of sweets and drinks, anyone can walk in for counter service and there are a few tables in addition to some photo spots available. In the back is The Bow Room which offers a pre-fixe tea menu during the day and turns into a cocktail lounge in the evenings. Reservations are currently taken through Yelp and open up 30 days in advance- while weekend reservations can be hard to come by its a l…

Timeless Style of a Natural Stone Watch

Hello Friends! I hope 2018 wrapped up nicely for you and you're watching out for opportunities in the new year. I love gifting to others but let's be real - I also love treating myself which is why I'm so excited to be wearing a new watch into the new year! Plus- it's perfect for my New Year's resolution to be on time more in 2019. Don't worry - I have a treat for you too at the end of this post.

Last year I received a beautiful wooden watch (which I still love BTW) but there have been times when I 've  wanted something a little more elegant on my wrist. The folks at Jord must have been reading my mind because they just released the new Sier Arcadia collection featuring interchangeable leather and mesh bands and natural stone faces. Each style is truly beautiful but I was drawn to the Sodalite and Gold style because it's unique from any watch I've seen. I tend to wear a lot of blues so this unique style really compliments my wardrobe. The only oth…

Oversized Sweater Three Ways

As I discussed in my 2019 Style post I really want to challenge myself this year and wear things a little differently and mix up my style. It’s so easy to have a favorite outfit and wear it on repeat but part of the fun of fashion in my opinion is personal style – and part of that is taking one item and styling it multiple ways. One of my favorite items currently being that it’s winter is an oversized sweater- in fact I love this style so much I have two very similar sweaters. It’s warm, cozy and super easy to throw on so what’s not to love? My default way of styling is just that –super casual thrown over a pair of skinny jeans or pants with ballet flats and a fun necklace.

To dress up this casual look I swapped the jeans for black skinny pants (ok, actually when I took the photos I couldn't find my jeans that day but pretend I was wearing them, haha!), the flats for heels and the necklace for a long scarf and added some sparkly earrings and a clutch. With a regular purse I could …
