Hello Kitty Tea

A few months ago I was scrolling on instagram and I saw some posts about a place called The Hello Kitty Grand Café. Now I had stopped by the Hello Kitty Café food truck when it rolled through Memphis (check out my post on that here) but this looked to be taking the experience to the next level. After digging into it I discovered that The Hello Kitty Grand Café was not far from my in-law’s home in Southern California and lucky for me we had trip already planned.
The Hello Kitty Grand Café operates with several functions – the front section of the location operates just like the food truck with a menu of sweets and drinks, anyone can walk in for counter service and there are a few tables in addition to some photo spots available. In the back is The Bow Room which offers a pre-fixe tea menu during the day and turns into a cocktail lounge in the evenings. Reservations are currently taken through Yelp and open up 30 days in advance- while weekend reservations can be hard to come by its a little easier during the week – they also take walk ups as they are able to accommodate. Hello Kitty and tea pretty much combines two of my lifelong favorite things so I made reservations for tea during the week – one important thing to note is reservations must be made in even numbers.

For our visit I wore a black blouse with red and pink flowers (hello kitty colors), my pink velvet skirt and the bow headband I had purchased at the food truck (because yes, I am a nerd). The Hello Kitty Grand Café has this headband in a sequin version currently.

The Bow Room was pretty much everything my pink instagram dreams were made of. The pre-fixe tea is $55 per person and includes strawberries and cream, scones, savory items and lots of sweets. The attention to detail is impeccable and there are so many Hello Kitty ties ins in every part of the process. When I talked about going several people laughed that I would be going to such an event without a child but while we were there one of ten tables had a child in the group. Shaun also got poked fun of for getting dragged along but there were five guys there during our visit - included Spiderman (to be fair it was Halloween). The food was not the best tea food we have ever had but it was much better than we expected, it was also the priciest tea we have even been to but I knew this going in and understand that part of the value is not in the food itself but in the experience and details.

After tea I changed into more casual clothes because also on instagram I discovered that Sanrio has partnered with a local farm with seasonal décor. We headed over to Tanaka Farms to see the pumpkin patch, take a wagon ride, go through the corn maize and stop by the petting zoo. This partnership is ongoing so the decorations change seasonally.
With Tea and Tanaka Farms we had a super fun Hello Kitty filled day! If you are traveling to Southern California anytime soon I definitely recommend stopping by both of these locations for a fun filled day.

Vi Peel

2018 Update: Hello Internet! Welcome to my most popular blog post - I presume you're here because you're considering getting a facial peel. Please keep in mind this is an old post and my photo quality is not great. Please feel free to read and enjoy but I do want to let you know that as the years have passed I have taken a more proactive approach with my skin care and I do not get frequent peels. If you'd like to see my modern approach to skincare check out some of my other beauty posts and I'd love for you to connect with me on Instagram to keep up with my latest and greatest recommendations.

Hello! So I got my first Vi Peel which I was super excited about. Since the Botox post was popular I figure y'all would like this too. Besides, it's well established I'm beyond any sense of privacy or shame here.
I got my first peel years ago - a mild Glycolic peel added onto my fac…

Anti Aging High vs Low Review

I recently received the Iconic Edition of the Sephora Play Box (read my review here) and one of the products I was most excited to try out was Crème de La Mer The Moisturizing Soft Cream because well it's super famous and also hella expensive so of course I wanted to know what's the big deal. The .24 oz sample included was enough for about two week's use - so a one ounce jar would last about 2 months. About a week in as I was getting ready in the morning I starting noticing that my skin did indeed look different - I looked clearer and under my eyes my lines looked a little softer and my circles less dark. I took this selfie to document my skins look - because #vain - plus I knew I would need it for this longer review. I think there's still room for improve with my skin's texture but it had only been a week.
My problem was that a month's supply - the .5 oz jar - is $85 and while that might not seem bad to some it is in major conflict with my goal of being fina…

20 Rules for Modern Feminine Style

One of the things I love about the digital age is the ability to connect with others! I recently got a great idea from a youtuber I follow to make a list of 20 "rules" that define my lifestyle and I really loved this idea and thought not only would this be a good exercise for myself but a good topic to share with y'all. So, obviously you do you and wear whatever you want but these are my guidelines for my modern feminine without breaking the bank aesthetic.
1. Focus on pieces with wear ability beyond one season, don't get sucked into too many trends. For example, gingham will always be wearable for summer, plaid for fall, sweaters for winter and floral for spring - but get pieces with classic cuts so you can wear them year after year. For example, a gingham shirt dress is classic, a gingham top with bell sleeves will look dated the second that shape is out. 2. Don't be afraid to spend a little more for quality timeless pieces - a cashmere sweater, a great blac…

Date Box - Sushi Making

Happy Monday friends! Let's start the week with something exciting - A GIVEAWAY! Y'all know I love subscription boxes and the most fun of the ones I receive is Date Box. Date Box puts together a fun date night idea and sends all the supplies right to our door. Confession - I have a stack of four boxes we haven't used. Honestly - space has been an issue but all of that will change soon as we move ot our new house. AND, since we'll be focusing on furnishing our home having a back log of boxes (ie dates without spending money) will be really nice. This month the folks at Date Box included a gift card for a free box to giveaway so checkout my instagram to enter.   But first, let me show you our most recent box:
This month's date is a sushi making night and includes the materials needed to make the sushi and a shopping list for the fresh ingredients. One thing I really like about Date Box is that it gives you great ideas that you could repeat by using the included too…

What’s in the bag : Toiletry Essentials to Pack for Your Next Trip

I’ve  been traveling so much lately so I’ve pretty much got packing down to a science. Planning for a trip can be stressful so I’m here to make it a little easier for you and talk about the necessities, today were specifically talking about what’s in the toiletry bag. As a special treat I have teamed up with Smile Brilliant for a giveaway at the end of this post!!! When thinking about necessities I first think about the things I don’t need - hotels always have shampoo, conditioner and a hairdryer so I never bring my own to save space.  I then think about what items I use at home that I can go without for the week vs. what I use everyday. I also try to think about  products that are good for multipurpose; facial oil is a great example as I use it for a makeup remover at night , a moisturizer in the morning and I also use a small amount on the ends of my hair. Through this I’ve been able to narrow it down to only ten items.
1. Hairbrush

2. Deodorant

3. Toothbrush

4. Toothpaste

5. Facia…
