Jessica London Style Swap

One of my favorite things about social media is how it has become this wonderful shared collective space. When it comes to fashion I love styling outfits and mixing up items in my closet but I also love seeing how other people style the pieces I have and I am always getting style inspiration from others.

In that spirit this month I teamed up with Lexi Nimmo to share some of our favorite pieces for fall from Jessica London. Lexi and I recently discovered that we have the same taste in clothing and tend to pick a lot of the same pieces so we thought it would be fun to team up and style some of the same items on purpose for once. We each picked two items so we could have four looks each to share.

Lexi picked a leather moto jacket and sleeveless mock neck sweater. I decided to get the jacket in blue instead of the traditional black because I wear a lot of blue as is so I knew it would go with a lot of things in my closet. For the mock neck sweater I went with a cream color because I’ve been in cream color top kick lately and love pieces that are good closet staples.

I picked a pleated maxi skirt in a new print for fall ; I had seen this skirt on others and thought it looked so feminine and fun, plus I love that it’s a longer skirt. I also picked a peplum sweater - I LOVE peplum and I’m always on the lookout for stylish sweaters. Once again I picked a cream color because I think it looks great with black pants but also because it’s a great base for statement necklaces.

Lexi’s Pick : Mockneck Sweater

I paired this with a navy skirt (the one I got is sold out but this one is similar) and some colorful accessories for an office to night out look. I love the simple elegance of two neutrals together but the color pop accessories keep the look from being boring.

My Pick : Maxi Skirt

When I ordered this skirt I envisioned it with a black top but I actually really like it with Lexi’s top pick. The colors go well together and this top lets the skirt shine as the star of the outfit. I do plan on pairing with black as the year goes on but right now I’m enjoying this lighter look.

Lexi’s Pick : Leather Moto Jacket

I typically think of leather jackets as weekend attire but I decided that with a shift dress and heels this jacket could go from a weekend classic to work week staple. Of course I’ll be paring it with jeans too - it’s the perfect color for Memphis Tiger games!

My Pick : Peplum Sweater

As much as I love fashion I love things that are uncomplicated and can be a "throw on and look cute" item and this sweater did not disappoint. I paired with black skinny pants and black boots for a simple look that balances out the volume of the sweater. I’m thinking of getting it in other colors so I can just make this my fall uniform.

I hope you enjoyed these styles and got some inspiration for outfits to wear this fall! Be sure to check out Lexi’s post to see how she has styled these pieces so you can double your inspo.

20 Rules for Modern Feminine Style

One of the things I love about the digital age is the ability to connect with others! I recently got a great idea from a youtuber I follow to make a list of 20 "rules" that define my lifestyle and I really loved this idea and thought not only would this be a good exercise for myself but a good topic to share with y'all. So, obviously you do you and wear whatever you want but these are my guidelines for my modern feminine without breaking the bank aesthetic.
1. Focus on pieces with wear ability beyond one season, don't get sucked into too many trends. For example, gingham will always be wearable for summer, plaid for fall, sweaters for winter and floral for spring - but get pieces with classic cuts so you can wear them year after year. For example, a gingham shirt dress is classic, a gingham top with bell sleeves will look dated the second that shape is out. 2. Don't be afraid to spend a little more for quality timeless pieces - a cashmere sweater, a great blac…

Plum Paper Designs - Fitness Insert

I know I say this every year but this year I also want to make wellness / fitness a priority. It's hard for me to get in the mindset of making it important because quite frankly it's not something my doctor gets onto me about. But during 2015 I've been making a switch to a more natural lifestyle and that has put fitness back at my top of mind. So, for $4.50 I got the fitness section added onto my Plum Paper Designs Planner
Here's what's inside:

A monthly layout for 12 months
Weight Loss Tracker at the Back

I LOVE the monthly layout! First off, having a hydration tracker for each day is going to be so nice. I also love the idea of holding myself accountable to writing down an activity (or excuse) each day. Most of all I love the recognition that each month will have different goals and includes some note sections ; one thing I hear a lot form people who successfully got fit was that they had some kind of tracking and were able to go back…

How to enjoy your patio in style

I have a confession - I have two tables for dining inside my home and right now neither is suitable for sitting down and having a meal at. Between all the travel and every single weekend for the past few months being filling with either heading out on a trip, coming home from a trip or catching up on laundry and packing for the next trip eating at home and keeping an neat house just hasn't been a priority. So the kitchen table has turned into a grocery staging area and kitchen odds and ends and the dining table has become my package receiving area and suitcase staging. So with the weather suitable for dining al fresco I was thrilled when the folks at Full Beauty Brands reached out about creating an outdoor oasis for our back patio.

My husband Shaun does a pretty good job of mowing the lawn on a regular basis and we have a service to spray to keep the grass green and the weeds at bay but despite our best efforts the grass will not grow right around our patio because the roof sha…

In my Thirtys, Flirty and Thriving

There’s something about birthdays that makes me very reflective. Turning 34 felt like nbd but 35 has me all whoa, wait a minute how did this happen so I’m feeling extra reflective this year and thought this might be a good space to share some of the conclusions I’ve come to over the past year. Plus cake smash pictures, because why not?
Looking back I think I spent a lot of my 20s caring about the wrong things and taking myself too seriously , at 35 I shrug my shoulders at a lot in life so I thought jumping on this goofy trend of adults  doing birthday photo shoots would be a good way to acknowledge my freedom from seriousness. I’m not saying that there’s never a time and place to be serious but life is short , live a little.

The older I’ve become the more I’ve adopted an IDGAF mentality and the less of a people pleaser I am. At the end of the day I am my own responsibility, my happiness , my well being , my life is all my responsibility so I’ve found myself putting myself first. I …
