Marimekko for Target

This Over the weekend Target released their latest designer collaboration, Finnish designer Marimekko. I love Target designer collaborations in general and was excited to grab a few of the whimsical pieces from a brand I had never heard of.

I heard a good quote from one of the target execs regarding this collaboration compared to last year’s big Lilly Pulitzer collaboration – the Lilly collection was a fashion collaboration with some home pieces but the Marimekko collaboration is all about home items with a few fashion pieces. Indeed, there were more prints in the non apparel items which on one hand was disappointing but on the other did make it easier to focus my spending as I did not set aside the solid amount of funds to shop with like I did last year. Since plus sizes are online only and collaborations tend to sell out online I decided to stay up for the early morning launch – plus I’ve been having problems sleeping lately.

I pretty much lived in my palazzo pants from the Lilly collaboration last summer so I was thrilled to see them make a comeback with Marimekko and grabbed the two floral prints. As my stuff arrives this week I’ll try on and review but I did stop by and visit in store and I think the quality, length and weight are the same as last year’s pants so I am hopeful the fit is as well. It seems the faux drawstring has been removed from the design – yay! Each pair was $29.99.

I also grabbed this blue tunic for $26.99 which should it fit and look nice I’ll pair with leggings.
I also got this $16.99 hat to wear with the matching pants and at the beach this summer.

And I was very intrigued by the idea of a round towel so for $29.99 I grabbed this.

I love this print, I really wish there had been clothing in this print.

After some pondering I decided I needed the scarf to match the hat so I can wear it as a bath suit coverup. But also, y’all know I love lightweight scarves and it was only $16.99. Here’s me wearing it today:

After lunch on Sunday I visited the collection in store and was shocked it was still fully stocked, it look to have been barley touched. Of course, back in the early days of target collaborations this was quite the norm – when Missoni crashed the website and sold out within hours of its release it was an unprecedented event. These collaborations are meant to be in store for more than an hour, of course they are also meant to eventually sell out. I do believe online has Marimekko items still available and store availability depends upon the region. Memphis is not quite as fashion forward as other major cities but still, I expected a little more interest.
Right now spending and more stuff is not my life focus, but if I was in more of a spendy mode here’s some of the other items I would have grabbed:
This dress is of a nice terry cloth material and is cuter and more substantial in person than I thought it would be. Plus it’s only $26.99.

I need a new bathing suit and this one is really cute at $34.99

If you’ve stalked my wedding registry you may have noticed that we have a turquoise theme going with our next kitchen. And I still owe a fridge organization post but how awesome would this be instead of drinks in ugly store containers? Our condo kitchen is bursting at the seams right now so I had to pass on this $24.99 beauty.
These are only $19.99, reversible and again go with my soon to be kitchen colors. It was really hard to walk away from this placemat set.
If have no idea what Kubb is and unfortunately this was not in my store to see in person but as much as I love the idea of learning a new game $99.99 for one is not in my budget right now.
How awesome would this $39.99 raft be for the beach?
I also love this mat and think it would be perfect for all the free outdoor stuff in Memphis but at $64.99 this was something I just couldn’t justify.
This was my first collaboration when I really exhibited control vs buy all the items I wanted (please don’t ask how many of the Neiman Marcus items I bought). I hope my purchases will all fit and I have some updates to post later this week. In the meantime, check it out yourself!
