I don’t think it’s any secret that I’m a girly girl, and my style tends to reflect that. One item I’m really into these days are tulle skirts. Not only do I feel feminine and pretty when wearing tulle but these tend to be my most liked social media posts and most complemented on in public outfits so the world around me has validated this love. I currently have four tulle skirts, yes four; I know they’re supposed to be a novelty piece but I just can’t help it – I am purging one though because I never seem to wear it. .
One of my favorite things about a tulle skirt is that they can be dressed up or dressed down – I’ve worn them with a dressy top for a cocktail party or a printed tee for a casual brunch.
During the wedding planning process my pink tulle was my go to piece for bridal events, because being a bride means being soft and feminine. This skirt is from target and isn’t quite as full as a typical tulle skirt

I purchased my red tulle on a whim because I was buying a black one and buying two qualified me for free shipping but I don’t have a lot of red in my closet so it’s been a good way to add that sassy pop of color. I first wore it on Christmas and then again for Super Bowl Sunday. If my husband had been in town I would have worn it on Valentine’s day and I’ll probably wear it for 4th of July. When I’m not wearing it to be festive I tend to pair with back or white.

My black tulle is probably my most versatile and I’ve worn it 5 times since purchasing last December. Both of these are from Charlotte Russe and cost less than $30 each.

Another thing I really like about tulle is that because it’s supposed to be full and poufy I think the style works well for plus sizes – without hips you have to have A LOT of layers to get the fullness. My target one has 3 layers and the two from Charlotte Russe have 7 each and even with that many layers and even with my hips I still don’t feel like they look super full. Most pictures you see online actually have a underskirt to add to the fullness, although the skirts do get more full over time as the layers don’t stick together – I usually “fluff” my skirts before wearing them.
The only think I haven’t worn a tulle skirt for yet is to work. I feel like it could be done but I’m not sure I can pull it off and I worry it can be too pretty, pretty princess than feminine professional. So, tulle for me will probably remain a weekend staple. It’s just as comfortable as putting on a pair of leggings in my opinion but looks a whole lot more put together.
