Nordstrom Rack Memphis

Last week was a big week for Memphis shoppers – our very own Nordstrom Rack opened! I like Nordstrom Rack, it’s one of my favorite places to shop online, so I was excited to hear that we were getting one in Memphis.

When visiting the new store I was surprised at how much it reminded me of a TJ Maxx. The home section is much smaller, the shoe section much larger and there’s no jewelry case but otherwise it’s similar in size, layout and merchandise. One difference I appreciate is that the purse and clothing sections are separated out by designer – so if for example you’re looking to buy a Tory Burch bag you don’t have to look through all of the bags – they are organized together. Shoes are not separated by specific designer but they are in two areas – regular and designer, which seemed to be shoes over $150 a pair.

Super small home section

Women’s clothing

Purses! I really want one of these Rebecca Minkoff bags

Pretty earrings

For plus sizes I’m torn on how I feel about the selection – about five racks, not bad but not great and mostly what I would call boutique brands – for example I got a Blu Pepper jacket, this is a brand I’ve seen at several local boutiques – and nothing over $100. On one hand I’m more likely to buy items at the $30 to $150 price point but on the other I would have liked the opportunity to try on and buy the occasional upscale brand – I personally am very interested in the Lafayette 148 brand but the only stores locally that carry it do not carry plus sizes. I didn’t look at every single tag in the store of course but it looked like the highest brand in stock is Tory Burch, which again leads to the similarity to a TJ Maxx in my opinion vs. a higher end retailer.

Faux leather moto jacket $49.95 and floral top $29.99 were my Nordstrom Rack finds
Having a Nordstrom Rack locally will most likely encourage me to at least shop online more because it will make returns easier and the store had several of the items I had purchased previously or considered purchasing so I have a feeling I’ll be stopping by on a regular basis but I’ll be interested to see if what I saw during the opening will continue to be what we’ll see in the future.
