Target Spring 2018 Try On

Spring is here! Well, maybe . . . here in Memphis we’re back to think funky weather where it’s in the 60s one day and freezing the next. But, spring fashion is hitting stores so close enough. While I usually start buying and wearing spring fashions for the year in March I decided this year with my theme of being more strategic with my wardrobe to go ahead and start trying things on so I can start thinking about what to ultimately buy.  Target has been killing it lately with fashion and they have several lines I love so knowing that I have a pretty healthy amount of skirts and I have jeans I love that I’d really want to be adding to my top collection I decided to make target my first try on stop.

Unfortunately I discovered that the plus sizes of the Who What Wear brand are no longer carried in stores, at least not in my area anyway (I went to five Targets looking for it). Target does however have a line that is exclusive to plus sizes – Ava + Viv, and A New Day which comes in both straight and plus sizes. The Xhilariation line also features some in store plus choices.

But first, I had to hit up the clearance rack, since we still have cool weather I can still get wear out of sweaters and winter fashions. From time to time if you use the cartwheel app you can get an extra 20% off your clearance purchase – this pink sweater was $9.98 and pearly clutch $5.68 (the skirt is also from Target but I bought it back at full price, you might still be able to find it in select sizes now on clearance) with my discount that made the two items $12.52 but wait – from time to time Target also has deals where if you buy so many of an item you get a giftcard – since these are usually on things we buy anyway like shampoo or health items  I try to take advantage when this is offered and just hold onto the giftcard to use towards something fun in the future so on my last visit I happened to have a $10 gift card chilling in my wallet. Even my hubby can’t object to a sweater and  clutch for $2.52.

But onto the Spring items . . . .

I was really disappointed in this A New Day top – the sleeves were too short and it’s see though. Yes, I could wear it with a tank underneath but it didn’t impress me at all to make it worth the effort.

This sheer top from A New Day is in fact meant to be worn with a tank but I had the same problem with the sleeves so I felt as pretty as the color was it was best to pass.

This is the last top I tried from A New Day and again the sleeves are too shirt, the bottons gap on my chest and the fit on the hips is not good. I could have sized up but I just didn’t feel like this top was great enough to warrant making it work. The moral of the story here is that this season’s selections of A New Day Tops are not for me.

I love wrap tops so I was super excited to find this blue and white stripe one from Ava + Viv. At this point I was so excited to find something that worked I forgot to show off the sleeve detail but they are ruched and have some volume to them. I decided to wear this with a nude tank to add a little modesty.

Going back to A new Day, I seem to have much better luck with their skirts. I really love this one with the tie waist – it’s a very silky soft material but there was also a skirt in a lighter color with a more structured material I decided to get instead. This purchase really excited me because a khaki skirt was on my wish list last year and I was unable to find one. I purchased my regular size but I do find the skirts to run a little large in this brand _ tried on and could have gotten a size down but I decided to allow room for shrinkage. I find the velvet skirt runs a little oversized too.

I personally really like ruffles so I was very drawn to this ruffle sleeve tee. I passed for now but it’s on my short list of things to go back for in March.

Finally, I tried on ths romper since I loved the one I purchased last year so much, I’m honestly still torn on this. (it’s not available online currently)

SInce the Who What Wear collection I’s available in plus in store I’ll have to be ordering online but here’s some of my top picks, I’ll do a later post on how it turns out:
